Yep last LNER HST's tonight in service, just off the 17.05 HGT -KX, half hour late from HGT stuck behind Northern 170, bailed at Leeds for the pub, will be on the 18.03 KX-HGT when it gets to leeds for my train home, couple of pics:
jessy1692
Never seen plat 1 on Harrogate so busy, was chatting to a couple lads from N Wales that came up for the journey, lots of people seem to be going to Doncaster and then swapping to the Northbound service. If id planned it better id have done the same but a few beers in Leeds and then last HST back to Harrogate will do

A real 'I was there' moment. The place looks deserted, though. Where was everybody? (Presumably that's at Harrogate after the trip.) After a nice few beers in Leeds, was really worried theyd cancel it back to Harrogate after being nearly an hour late into Leeds! Returned home in style sat in 1st class as well. Cheers James Edit, i have just received some pics this evething from last night, the above shows the hardy stalwarts waiting for the final departure from Harrogate, it was supposed to be ecs to Leeds but the crew allowed travellers to stay on to get back to Leeds as we were best part of an hour late leaving Leeds. Nice touch and deffo one to remember for those on board. Edited December 16, 2019 by jessy1692

RMweb Gold 4630 Posted December 31, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 31, 2019 (edited) Through early morning frost, HST Power Cars 43112 and 43206 together with the rest of the blue and grey set, plus a couple of other LNER Mk3s, head south at day break on 31st December 2019, passing the now closed Eggborough Power Station in North Yorkshire.  The working was 5L46, 04.41 Craigentinny T&RSMD to Ely Papworth, taking the stock for storage.     Edited December 31, 2019 by 4630 15

It is a right bag of nails - failed yesterday on depot before coming into service and has had a travelling fitter riding it all afternoon as there are several notches and traction motors taped out/isolated!  EDIT: You lose notches when you isolate a traction motor. Steadfast
The end of the East Coast HSTs reminds me of watching them bow out on the Western in the summer. Here's a few pics of the last day of 2+8 sets on the Great Western Mainline. Having known the HSTs running up and down the GWML all my life, it's weird to now be without them on express services. 43172 Newton St Loe by Steadfast Fotography, on Flickr A fitting name on one of the power cars to survive until the final day of class 1 HST operation, 43172 'Harry Patch, The last survivor of the trenches' passes Newton St Loe with a service from the Westcountry up to London. 43172 survived with GWR until December 2019 working the 2+4 short sets. Three to go... by Steadfast Fotography, on Flickr The first of a trio of HST workings that would be the last London bound HST workings on the Western. 43093 'Old Oak Common HST Depot' speeds through Wootton Bassett Junction with its final Up working to the capital. This would be one of a number of power cars retained by GWR for operating short sets in the south west, proving a good design can't be kept down, even if it is relegated to class 2 work. The first on the last day by Steadfast Fotography, on Flickr 43002, named 'Sir Kenneth Grange' after the designer of this iconic train, comes off the South Wales line at Wootton Bassett Junction with the penultimate Up HST service on the Western Region. After 43 years of service the original power car is destined for the NRM at York. It regained its BR blue and yellow livery in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the HST at St Philip's Marsh in 2016. The last Up Western Region HST by Steadfast Fotography, on Flickr 43185 'Great Western' passes Wootton Bassett Junction from Bristol with the last London bound HST service. After 43 years, the HST's use as class 1 traction on the Western was to come to end. Not bad for a stand in! Growing up with HSTs on the Great Western Mainline, the Intercity Swallow livery is my definitive image of what an HST should look like. Weird to think after today this staple sight would be gone. Â Gone but not forgotten, luckily I'm not far from the 2+4 sets in the Bristol area for an HST fix. The HST lives on! by Steadfast Fotography, on Flickr Less than a month after the HSTs finished...it's an HST. The 18th May saw the end of Intercity HST operations on the Western Region, but the vast majority of power cars have found new homes. A load have gone to Scotland and a good number have remained with GWR for operation as 2+4 sets on local services. The sets being kept are being fitted with power operated doors and repainted green, but until sufficient sets are available for service FGW blue sets with slam doors are being pressed into use. 43171 is at the head of one such set as it passes Horfield in Bristol with a Taunton - Cardiff service. Â On August bank holiday weekend, Cross Country hired a pair of LNER HSTs to enhance capacity. With the end of the East Coast HSTs, this is also presumably now a scene never to be repeated. XC hire in 2019 by Steadfast Fotography, on Flickr The days of the summer Saturday hire in return as 43290 'MTU Fascination of Power' leads 43357 past Winterbourne working 1V50 Edinburgh - Plymouth on hire to Cross Country. With the end of East Coast HSTs, will this be the last time one is hired in? Â Jo Edited January 2, 2020 by Steadfast 13

EDIT: You lose notches when you isolate a traction motor. All FG owned power cars are now green except for the 4 spares donors (43088, 156, 162 and 195), 43010 isnt one of them.  If TMs are locked out then notches have to be locked out because off the Alternators output is directed to the remaining TMs with the increased risk of overload and flashovers. Jack Mc
Only just realised that I forgot to put my pictures up from the recent railtour, I know there's a thread dedicated to that but I don't think it hurts to have them here instead!  21/12/2019 - 'West Riding Limited' Leeds - London KX  Leeds -  43206  43312  Retford -  43206  43312 - not a chance of me being able to get through the crowd here!  The departure board; a nice touch in my opinion.  London King's Cross -  43312 alongside 800210  43206  My earliest memories of HSTs on the East Coast is seeing them as a kid at Leeds during GNER days alongside the 91s and Eurostars; very vaguely remembering being terrified of the Valenta engines! They have always been a personal favourite and I enjoyed every minute of a fantastic day out.  Jack 12

Trev52A
Now that the HSTs have gone from the ECML, here are some more reminders of happier times at Newcastle last year:  43305 arriving at the head of a southbound train on 19th August 2019  The distinctive 43238 with 91112 on the far platform on 19th September 2019  Here's a weird one! 43305 departs south (on the left) while its reflection of 43318 on the rear appears to be going in the opposite direction (would have made a good video!!) on 19th September 2019  Trevor   12
