The recent felling of trees beside the line has opened up the view across this viaduct, which used to cross a rope worked incline from Platts Common to the canal next to the site of the Elsecar Heritage Railway.

A couple of recent scans from prints taken in the mid 90s at Ruscombe, just east of Twyford, on the WR main line. The first picture is of a train on the down main travelling at line speed towards its first stop at Reading. The second picture is of a train on the up relief slowing down for the red signal protecting the 70mph ladder junction in the distance. Because the line speed on the up relief at that time was 75mph, the signal for the up relief to up main route would clear as soon as the route was set by the signalman. On this occasion, the HST would come to a brief halt waiting for a train on the down relief line to clear the junction first.

I messaged Mick earlier saying in my opinion it needed a yellow end, something didn’t look right to me but that wrap round window is spot on, that’s what was missing!

maybe a splash of red on the lower nose cone instead of a red bufferbeam
