I messaged Mick earlier saying in my opinion it needed a yellow end, something didn’t look right to me but that wrap round window is spot on, that’s what was missing!

maybe a splash of red on the lower nose cone instead of a red bufferbeam

Or (red painted) buffer fitted power cars......

I've also stuck this in the prototype for everything thread, but should be of interest here too.

Another trio of power cars off for overhaul, power door controls and some shiny green paint, 43029 leads 43027 and 43022 away from Westerleigh Junction running as 5E23 from Laira to Doncaster. Presumably the two trailers (42087 and 42580) are in line for the power door treatment. 47815 'Lost Boys 68 - 88' was bringing up the rear of this ROG operated move. I reckon this will be my last photo of an FGW blue power car, 14 years after the livery first appeared.

Now with Colas for use with Network Rail infrastructure monitoring trains, former East Midlands Railway 43050 and 43060 passing through Brighouse on 22nd October 2020 with 1Q67, 16.50 Doncaster CHS to Wigan North Western.

I wonder if they’re gonna get a full repaint into colas colours?

conference car missing so has also to run at a reduced speed

May sound a daft question but why without the conference car would it have to run at lower speed?

With only 4 coaches, it has to run at reduced speed due to the reduced brake force available. 5 coaches is the minimum for full-speed running.

The fact that one coach is missing is the relevant factor, on this occasion it just happens to be the conference coach.

Totally agree with what you are saying rule book wise yes it’s a reduced speed because of the short formation

however the conference car missing from the NMT formation has a different set of stand alone rules too, even if the formation is made back up to 5 vehicles with the spare coach it has to run at reduced speed due to the enhanced brake on the conference car not being available (or something like that, not driven it for over 2 years now!)

What’s the reason for the conference car having enhanced braking?

ISTR the mk3s having 2-stage braking whereby there's standard air braking up to a certain speed but above that, a higher brake pressure operates to allow sufficient braking at high speed.

So if, for some reason the higher pressure isn't available, then max speed is reduced to 100mph

I think it's something along those lines but anyone please feel free to correct me!:)

@Bob Reid will probably know as I'm sure this sort of thing was mentioned in the context of the E-G push-pulls

I think that may be a mistake on my behalf, it’s actually loco hauled MK3 coach 977994 which has an unbraked bogie which if like UTU coaches means the other braked bogie has enhanced brakes

however the conference car conundrum continues........

I just happen to have this sat in my bedside cabinet (as you do!)

D163E498-6A16-4A6E-BAE7-5030927EFD80.jpeg.b7bc18f852b1a89c5e92aded9a28bfdd.jpeg

It’s a bit of a strange one as it lists the various coaches that can be worked in the NMT and it says “975814 conference car - no notable features”

However in the train speeds section it says “if 975814 is not in the formation then speed is restricted to below 10mph below line speed”

The same rule applies to 977994 Too

i suppose it could be open to interpretation, as in, 975814 is not there hence the train is now a 4 car formation and as keefer says open to rule book speeds however why single out the conference car when any vehicle removed would make it a 4 car set resulting in a speed reduction (10mph below line speed down to 30mph)
