Class 43 Photos HST 🇬🇧, XPT 🇦🇺 & HST 🇲🇽

Recommended Posts

Not the best of photos, but I was in a hurry to get both these units in the frame at the same time.

252001 and 253005 at Swindon, on 19th October 1976.

In the distance, behind the signal on the left, can be seen some class 24s waiting to be towed into the works for cutting up.

Wonderful period shot Jonny, a good mix of old and new in there, including the GWR cast iron bench seats. I've often thought that the 1968 onwards layout of Swindon would make a great model, given enough space to do it justice.

Yes, who would have thought we would be nostalgic about HSTs 40 years on, eh?

Did you see the recent TV programme with Chris Tarrant, 'The Train That Saved British Rail'?

Three taken at Newcastle last week, when I was out to capture them in their current (but not for long?) Virgin East Coast livery:

I think they are brilliant (the trains, that is - not the photos!)

Cheers

Several power cars were branded up for Bristol 2015 Green Capital and carried the branding for a year or two after.

43126 had the white front, the others had standard FGW blue. The first couple of pictures are in the Bristol area to boot.

43186 for a time carried (along with 43148) an all over white HP livery, promoting the company's vinyl printers as well as their consumer hardware

43163 carried Visit Plymouth vinyls, which I felt went well with the FGW blue livery and complimented the base blue well.

At Paddington with the relief Western Requiem railtour 20/02/77

attachicon.gif1010 Western_Requiem_20_2_77 .jpg

Photos of Westerns with production HSTs (apart from in preservation) were difficult to get. I may have posted this before - but I had to use the biggest zoom I could muster in order to get D1010 on Ranelagh Bridge, together with HSTs on October 30th 1976.

It may have been mentioned before, but I always like the effect you get at Paddington where the curved platform ends give that staggered positioning of the HST cabs as shown in Nidge's shot in post #26.

Doesn't that picture just sum up the GWML electrification .............................. a quality product surrounded by the chaos and debris of it's flawed successor ..............................

I haven't seen this livery variation on the thread yet. I don't know the number or working but the train is on the down main at Lower Basildon (Between Pangbourne and Goring & Streatley) and the date is July 31st 1988.

Can anyone help with a location for this one? I've recorded it as 43033 and 43133 on the 1110 Paddington to Penzance on October 16th 1988 but I can't remember where it was taken. It must be a diversion as it's on a single line and it's definitely not Cornwall.
