Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

to try and keep the OO APT-P thread clear for notifications and updates, please use this section for any photographs you may have of the laser scanning day and the beast itself.

Feel free though to post a note on the OO APT thread to tell everyone you have posted here.

cheers

This thread does not seem to be working for its intended purpose. Seeing as the other thread is now a huge picture gallery might it be better to make this thread the one for the specific project updates with no photographs allowed. ;-)

Hi

All New Photo updates will take place HERE... of the APT-P Photos and any comments on them would be welcome.

Please also feel free to Add any of 'your own photos' of the APT-P Crowd Funding Day to this thread, as it will be a good place for cross reference material.

Most of the Photos below will have been transferred from the current place of...

‘OO gauge Crowdfunded APT-P (Warley announcement)’ To ‘APT-P Photographs’ across to here.

Hi All (Transferred from OO gauge Crowdfunded APT-P (Warley announcement)

Great day meeting you and putting a name to the USER ID, I'm sure I will have a load of the simulate photo to you to lol, Your knowledge base was superb on what things we were walking through the power car with you etc. not to mention nearly all other mechanical parts.

Great day spent with you!

The Special Coach you pointed out, I wonder if any Extra coaches can be made, I would like it to be this coach.

post-5212-0-62064800-1528641594_thumb.jpg

DJM Dave, ONE WISH PLEASE...! Can you make it happen as a ONE OFF, it existed but never appeared in the formation (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong) or so I believe. Can you pull it off, or will we still see a Cut&MakeDo with even this APT Set, I hope not, but only you can make it happen.

If you don't ask, you don't get, or in this case, if you don't ask, I will never know, I'd certainly buy the odd one or two for sure...!

You did mention I was a pain but for good reason... lol

The twin bogie coach was the foreunner of the Mk IVs, and was tested at some length to see how it behaved relative to the articulated versions. I'm told it was tested in the POPII consist, at one end obviously, but I've never seen a pic of that.

I saw it parked on its own south of Peterborough sometime in the '90s, but I can't recall exactly when.

The APT-P ECML tests were to measure its aerodynamic drag and the 37s propelled it to the top of a bank and let go while the aerodynamics guys took measurements. Quite why they couldn't have done that on Beattock or Shap I don't know, but they didn't.

Hi Mr_Tilt

Ha-ha, Thank you for that valuable information, I was hoping someone would add the extra insight to that photo, as to what was the future held for that type of coach, Thanks for that information.

It's what I like most about this Thread and in dead to the RMWeb, as there is always someone who knows the answer to such questions.

Hi All (Transferred from OO gauge Crowdfunded APT-P (Warley announcement)

I will be adding slowly most of my own photos in my Gallery and slowly adding all 667 Doh! Trying to keep the numbers way down on uploading that many, but I know there will be some who will be interested in the Power Car and the walk through the centre of it, and indeed came across a few shockers with it being so dark in places and it wasn't till I got back home I saw what some of the sign siad... for example

post-5212-0-94809800-1528641939_thumb.jpg

I must admit, it did make me laugh, once I noticed what it said, as the screen review on my camera is to small for my shot eye sight to read but hey, no humans were armed in the taking of this photo :O  :scared:  :nono:

Funny enough it's next to the Side Access Door as you can see from the photo the Handle to get in or out of the Power Car.

Hi All (Transferred from OO gauge Crowdfunded APT-P (Warley announcement)

The Photos are of the Pantograph Linkage Arm which is attached to the Bogie, as you can see in Red to pin point where the Linkage Arm is.

post-5212-0-48723100-1528642665_thumb.jpg

The Second Photo is taken from just inside the Bogie Arm, and looking directly up to the Photograph, It was raining slightly so sorry about the water on the lens it was the best I could do to enable me to understand how it all worked and I think to enable the Pantograph to remain stable while the APT-P was in Tilt Mode, the linkage arm enabled the pantograph to remain static.

If I'm wrong I'm sure someone will correct me, but that's how I understood it to be...!

Mr_Tilt,

AFAIK, yes, but it would have been pretty easy to turn the half set at Newcastle, just run it round the loop through the Central Station and over the bridges. We did exactly that with POP-Train to avoid having to run south with Lab 3 at the 'wrong' end of the train.

More on the 'twin bogie' coach, according to Departmentals.com it was entitled 'Lab 2', although I've never seen a pic of it as such. Its number was 977527, and they have a quite good B&W pic of it taken in the RTC Yard with what looks like the No. 4 H4X bogie from POPII in the background, which would put it in the mid-80s sometime.

Hi Mr_APT

Great photo, if only you had it in colour to... Interesting the light you have shed on this special coach.

Hope you are feeling better each day, thoughts are with you!

Hi All (Transferred from ‘OO gauge Crowdfunded APT-P (Warley announcement’)

Almost, the linkage was to keep the pantograph centered on the o'head wire when the loco tilted in the curves. If it hadn't have been there the panto head would have shot off sideways with disastrous results. The pantograph itself was mounted on lateral swing links above the roof so that it could 'anti-tilt' when the loco tilted, driven by the links on the bogie and the socking great shafts that went up through the body.

post-5212-0-21479800-1528651439_thumb.jpg

The whole shooting match was tested on the dreaded 'Lab 24 Trestrol', as seen below.

Hi Kit Thanks for that photo information....

What a great photo, I've been looking through quickly of my own collection to see if I had take photos of the huge spring coils, that I had taken from the inside, sadly DJM Dave is going to have to re-setup another Open Day... I need some counselling for not taking that photo ha-ha

post-5212-0-95737200-1528651067_thumb.jpg

I was standing with Dagworth in the Power Car, when Dagworth pointed out to me that he (Dagworth)  was standing right on the centre of the bogie (BLUE) and I stood where on one of the Wheel Axles (RED) would have been and from the inside the other wheel Axle looked to be about 10-12ft apart I estimated it to be, Dagworth also pointed out the Shaft wells were the huge coil springs where behind encased metal so was hidden from view... but very clearly seen from your photo Mr_APT aka Kit...!

The photo below in (Blue) was where the Centre of the Bogie was and where the Coils would have been behind (where Dagworth was standing) the (Red) was the where I was standing which was where each Axle was.

Just in case your are all wondering 'Dagworth' is his RMWeb User ID aka Andi (great guy)

Looking at Jamie’s photos, will the model have the red lights behind that strip below the window opposite the buffet counter?

Andi

Hi Andi (Transferred from ‘OO gauge Crowdfunded APT-P (Warley announcement’)

Yes, I did wonder that, I also remember thinking what colour will the side panels be on the kitchen side on the Model, Is it Brown or Burn Orange... Do those LIGHTS play a role in making that Panel look different colours based on natural sunlight, those are things we need right on the Model.

I guess a trip back with  some colour cards from B&Q may identify the right colour shade of Red/Orange/Brown... whatever it is...? not sure if anyone picked that up to, along with the lighting, and Yes The lighting on the Model is a MUST I'd say, personally.

Even the Break Glass hammer on the wall in front would be nice to see on the Model to.

I am presuming the A4 Size Empty Panel to the Left of the Break Glass would have had the Buffet Menu in it, I couldn't see what other use or possibly Break Glass instructions, but it looks to far away for that, if I'm honest...!?!

Hi All

A nice photo of the APT plus the Scanning Guys and most of who attended on January 02, 2018 and yes, DJM Dave I took into account when you said I could take photos as long as your ugly mug was not in the photo ha-ha so you will be pleased I timed this photo just right, well nearly Doh ha-ha

Nice to see the APT with no steps up to each of the doors for the first time in how many years, I'm sure Brian aka 'craigy' on HERE also knows the APT like the back of his hand, so knowledgeable to!
