No, it doesn't actually.  :D

I'm not sure I even understand the question.........

Are you asking about a bogie that DOESN'T have cardan shafts and transfer boxes etc? There isn't one, both Power Car bogies have two motors, two HK brakes, two transfer boxes, two cardan shafts and two final drive gearboxes and two axles, making four of everything.

They didn't need two pantographs, in fact it was important that only one was up anyway, that was the reason why the Power Cars were in the centre of the train. At high speed a leading pantograph tended to set up a standing wave in the very light overhead that BR used back then, and that would have meant any trailing pantograph would bounce off the wire a lot of the time, as much as 70% in some tests apparently. So the two Power Cars were marshalled together and the 25Kv jumpered from one to the other, powering all eight axles from one pantograph.

The jumper wire was installed on 49006 but it was stolen while it was at the ERM, so there are none left anywhere now.

Nowadays they aren't so psychotic about jumpering 25Kv along the train, which is how the Pendelinos work.

Hi All (Transferred from ‘OO gauge Crowdfunded APT-P (Warley announcement’)

Hi Kit

Yes... I was referring to the Bogie without a Cardan Shaft and Transfer Boxes..!

Sorry I noticed you said Both Power Cars, and you said... 'There isn't one, both Power Car bogies have two motors, two HK brakes, two transfer boxes, two cardan shafts and two final drive gearboxes and two axles, making four of everything. '

I am asking, was it possible to use the Other Axle on the SAME Power Car and have Two of all on each Axle, making it possible to have had Two Pantographs in ONE Power Car! Sorry if I wasn't clear enough. Hope that sounds better to understand my Question raised Kit.

So making it possible to have had in just ONE POWER CAR... so it would have had Four motors, Four HK brakes, Four transfer boxes, Four cardan shafts and Four final drive gearboxes and Four axles within the same Power Car! making it possible to have Two Pantographs, One at One End (Facing inward as it is today) and Another Pantograph at the Other End (Facing Inward towards the Other Pantograph), thus making use of the Other Axle at the non Pantograph end...!

Was that ever on the drawing board so to speak, or was there only ever going to be TWO transfer boxes... etc. etc., and ONE Pantograph.

I was asking.... to then making it possible to use just ONE Power Car with Two Pantograph, One at either End, on ONE Power Car as a pose to the Two Power cars the ATP always had with one Pantograph on top of each power car.

Jamie

Hi Kit / Brian

On the CAB End Trailer Car, the little narrow connecting corridor you go through from the Main Seating area through a narrow door and on into the Cab, is there some kind of Generator on the left side, if so what was the generator used for, I saw the total running hours clock, sad to see so low in hours, I will sort through a publish them soon. I had the idea, while not on Pantograph or loss of power it would supply electric to all the essentials of the APT that needed power, as well as Internal Lighting for Each Coach etc.

I do find it interesting behind all the scenes of comfort as to what made the APT tick as it were...!

Pretty much spot on, again from the APT-P leaflet.

Hi  All

Not sure if this just may be me here, but I have never noticed the Steps on the Right side of the Bogie to gain access to the Door above of my Hornby Model and what's worse, I don't have one to hand to check, now I know someone will jump on this and tell me, I do have the other coaches to hand but those are not the correct bogies I need to compare!

If the Hornby Bogie doesn't have this feature, please DJM Dave make sure the Model will have... sorry to be a pain Dave lol

Hi Jamie.

It's not a step, well it is and it isn't, so to speak lol. it was covered with a piece of steel originally so filling the gap. This will be recovered again with some steel i've got so blanking it off like the other power car.

There was a picture on display showing the step uncovered, so it probably started off as one then covered over as it wasn't needed.

Hi everyone,

Today i hope to have some first renderings from the point cloud of the APT-P which was laser scanned with some of you present last Saturday at Crewe.

I have in the meantime attached 3 x panoramic files which you can download via...... http://www.fsoft.it/...iewer/download/

Meanwhile if you want to look at them as Jpegs on your system feel free to save the pics below (although you can also view them here too.

hi everyone

And here are some images (rough and ready) from the point cloud of the APT. please note these are not panoramic, merely standard Jpegs.

Please note the work has now started on processing these into usable images the final cad to snd to China for design with a view to tooling.

However i do not expect anything tangible for 2-3 weeks from the laser guys.

I have in the meantime attached 3 x panoramic files which you can download, but please do not use any fspviewer to view them yet, as i am awaiting the laser scanners to send me a link for a free download which doesnt come with anything attached such as 'bing' or ask to alter your settings etc.

Once i have that i will alter this post removing the warning above and giving the link for the fsp viewer so you can look at the files in panoramic fashion.

Meanwhile if you want to look at them as Jpegs on your system feel free to save the pics below (although you can also view them here too.

So when the APT-P was in passenger service, with the train pretty much split in the middle by the power cars - was there 2 guards on board, one in each half? or would the guard have travelled through both power cars en-route?

Hi GordonC

I have some photos coming up after a few more close ups of the Cab Interior,

But I did see this on the wall of the layout.

The next Batch is the Parcels area and Guard's Compartment

post-5212-0-85288700-1528399622_thumb.jp

This Area (Kit or Brian will confirm) was the Parcels Luggage Area,

again the Narrow Door that you can see lead on into a small connecting corridor and on into the Main Power Car, possibly used if only one guard per APT-P and used to gain access to the Front/Rear Guard's 2nd compartment and seating area's.

This was taken Outside the First of Two Guard's Compartment and I'm standing in the Seating Area to show the size of the compartment, and on into the Parcels Luggage Area's.

(Kit / Brian) With the Above Photo, was the Guard in charge of making the APT-P Tilt, then...!?!

Can you shed more Light on the Brake Pressure (Axle 1 / / Axle 2) Is this Tilt Related at all...?

One of the Guards compartments was in a more sorry state than the other as you can probably make out, No Seat, and the Communication System was missing main parts somewhat...!

And thankfully a first and a last?.  They were equipped with good old caravan-style Elsan Blue bogs and retention tanks - leaving the freshly flushed bog a fetching shade of dark blue and that awful Elsan Blue smell.  We had no amount of bother as the sets required "unique" for APT use only bog paper or the system blocked up which it did when used with the standard BR weapons grade bog paper - needless to say there was never enough of the special APT bog paper for the service when you needed it.  At the depots we had bowsers for disposing of the effluent and replenishing the Elsan Blue.  Thank goodness BR was by this time building stock with ordinary CET tanks and depots equipped with full length CET/flushing aprons.

Hi Bob

Love the Terminology that you have used of the (Tracing Paper) Bog Paper... That made me laugh, love it...!

I think we all remember BR Toilets and the Choice of Toilet Paper used.

The APT-P Toilets does look rather clean and modern looking, when you think what other coaches of that time period had, the APT-P looked more futuristic.

The toilets on the APT-P would have passed as a 'toilet of the future' had it have been in the BTTF3 (Back to the Future)...! :locomotive:

For those that did not attend or never been on the APT-P, the main coach you walk up the ramp to and the next joining car is 370 006, these were laid out as more of a Exhibition area and all things APT-P from its beginning to its end.

Blow Photos

You Enter the Main Buffer Area, You can see a Door on the Left, which I think is just a Store Room for the Buffet Car Food etc., maybe or a cleaning materials etc., Brian I need your Input please!

Below you can see a Door on the Left, only Brian was seen going and coming out of this room, Brian I need your Input please! I think this is just a storage cupboard and would have the Fourth Full Window (before the Two Window Gap / Filled in from the Outside) as the Kitchen Access Door was accessed from the other end of the Buffet Bar (See Phone about the Mirror on the Wall for staff to see if anyone was approaching before they opened the door from the kitchen side.

I did notice that even though we see Two Larger Standard windows on the outside, as viewed from inside, in the Kitchen area, we see Two Narrow Type windows.

Hope that helps with explaining the Buffet Car Windows, as seen from the Viewing Side Area of the APT-P.

Hi

Next time your down Jamie i will show you what i mean about the window layout in the buffet car, the last 4 th window is the stoarge/switch room then the 2 blank spaces where the displays are, then the shaded out windows above the sinks.

Hi Jamie.

The storage area you have marked is in fact the bar area where the displays are, the first window then after that is the "crews area", where the circuit breakers, shelving and water inlet pipes are.

Brian

Hi Brian

Thanks for that valuable information, but as seen in the photo from the outside, there are Four Windows together at the one end of the Buffet Car..

But I take it. due to the length from Seating Area to the Bar Display Area Where You Order Food etc., you pass the Bar Store Door and the length of the Brown/Maroon area before you come to the Display Bar itself, in that Bar Store Room must be the Fourth Window,

Which would then leave the Two Blanked Out Windows (as seen from the outside below) we know there are Three Windows (on the Right) are the seating Area, so the Forth Window (nearest the Filled In Windows in the Centre on the Right) must be inside the Bar Store Room or part of where the circuit breakers, shelving and water inlet pipes are...! as you say.

So the Two Missing Windows the Gap between the Two LEFT Windows and the Four RIGHT Windows, (as seen in the Outside Photo below) The Missing Window Gap must start inside the Store Room and on into the Displays Area.

(The Gape between the First Two Windows and Last Four Windows as seen from the outside)

This must be where the Food/Cans of Pop/Beer are etc...  or The Displays Area as you say in the photos below, that you look at while you order your Food/Drinks etc...

I'm basing the information off the photos taken Only,

The outside of the Buffet Car Photo, is viewed from the side of the Crewe Heritage Centre of the APT-P (as appose to the Other side that looks out at the WCML)

Does that make sense as to where the windows are within the Buffet Car itself...

The Other Side of the Buffet Car, the WCML side as 8 Large Window, Three in the Seating Area and Five in the Buffet Bar itself.

Hi Brian

I hope that marries up with what you have said, remembering that the information is based on photos only.

Jamie

Hi all.

Just going off topic slightly. What do you think of these ? I have had them reprinted, very good to and to the same dimensions. If your interested in one go on to the APT P UK Class 370 facebook page, where i will give you more details.

Normal service may resume lol.

It’s interesting looking at these pictures but one thing strikes me, they didn’t seem to be designed for passengers carrying luggage.
I didn’t notice a luggage rack in any of the pictures, similarly the overhead bin is tiny.

Hi adb968008

Yes, I can't recall seeing any form of Luggage Racks apart from the Parcels Area's both where next to each of the Two Guards rooms, you had that space in the photo below, beyond that was the access into the Centre Power Cars etc. and coming out of that at the other end would be the second Guards room but obviously this area as been boarded out for the exhibition area, as seen in the photo below....

I guess Kit or Brian may know what it looked like prior to the boarding it out for the exhibition area, as to whether there were any form of Racking for Luggage / Parcels etc...

Bothe First and Second Class both had over head storage, not that I would say you could cram any large suitcase up in that space, lifting it above your head, I guess would be a struggle. See the photos below...

First Class

First Class did have room between each Back to Back chairs, but I thought this may have been to recline your chair, but I guess a wide enough for a suit case, I guess.

Hi all.

This is what the guards compartment looked like, sorry for the mess but this is tidy compared to what i inherited lol. There where large racks fastened to the ceiling and the floor that could be adjusted, these i still have behind the display boards.

There was an area in the DTS by the aux room door that was used as a luggage area, not hard to spot now as most seats have been moved around.

The 1st class seats are indeed wider.

Next time your down Jamie i will show you what i mean about the window layout in the buffet car, the last 4 th window is the stoarge/switch room then the 2 blank spaces where the displays are, then the shaded out windows above the sinks.

Hi All

I have enjoyed the feedback and learning about parts of the APT-P that I didn't know before, that can only be a good thing, as you can never have enough knowledge.

I would love to see some Photos of those who attended the Crowd Funding Day on June 02, 2018, this will also allow those who could not attend, to see Crewe Heritage Centre and the APT-P Crowd Funding Day, who knows, I may have missed out on something important. ha-ha...!

Jamie
