brianusa
Looks like the last UP train has arrived at BL, about 19:00. Lovely evening still but everybody must have gone to dinner. Its fun sometimes (for me anyway) to see all the people, typical holiday crowd just as I remember but with rucksacks these days; we just used to stuff our pockets! And all those small cars in the car parks, very few of which can be seen over here. Train still parked in the platform and the Porter is locking up! Brian. RMweb Gold Gilbert Posted June 11, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 11, 2018 (edited) Shame D7018 didn't make its promised debut . But it was powered up at Williton on Saturday - impressive cloud of smoke visible from some distance - and it sounded very impressive too. D7017 did sterling service however. Unlike some... RMweb Gold tarifa Posted June 11, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 11, 2018 A very good diesel gala in a great setting with an excellent diesel turnout. I particularly wanted to see the Class 45 and alas my video camera packed up on the day. Apparently Western Campaigner has suffered a transmission problem. Mike PS anyone know where I can get a video camera with an external mic connection.

RMweb Premium Richard E Posted June 11, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 11, 2018 (edited) Saw these two headed north to Kidderminster this afternoon at Nailsea and Backwell along with three others. Apologies for 'borrowing' the photo above but I am unable to post my own at present. Edited June 11, 2018 by Richard E

I especially enjoyed the (almost) non-stop runs with the Hymek and the 20s.
RMweb Gold Gilbert Posted June 12, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 12, 2018 The Western failed late on Friday - pity as I only missed that one on Friday and intended to ride behind it on Saturday morning! A brake coach failure on Saturday also led to a few problems. Chris
RMweb Gold rodent279 Posted June 12, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 12, 2018 (edited) I had a good day on Fri, glad I got the Wizzo in! Missed the 20's & the Peak, but I was more interested in the Hymek & Wizzo anyway. The Hymek sounded superb, but 1010 definitely looks like it's in need of tlc. I'll post some photos later. Phill Dyson (onslaught832)
Pretty much... At least on the WSR the trains spend more time moving than waiting at stations.

I was at the SVR GALA all three days & spent all my time travelling not waiting? Having been to both Galas on many occasions & I have a good idea which railway is getting it right. locoholic
So your saying the WSR Gala had more train movements than the SVR Gala? I was at the SVR GALA all three days & spent all my time travelling not waiting? Having been to both Galas on many occasions & I have a good idea which railway is getting it right. No, you need to read more carefully. The TRAINS on the WSR spend more time moving than waiting. On the SVR about 50% of the journey time between Kidder and Bridgnorth is usually spent waiting in passing loops or waiting to get into the passing loops, and the intervening miles are somewhat riddled with speed restrictions. Not the fault of the SVR, but true nevertheless.
Phill Dyson (onslaught832)
I found the SVR Gala was extremely well run & had NO lengthy waits at ANY passing points on any of the three days, but as the gala is full of visiting loco's & a large & well maintained fleet of home fleet loco's it makes the SVR Gala the premier diesel gala in the UK & probably the best attended too & the WSR will have to work hard to re-join the list of premier diesel galas ...I do hope it gets there but with this year with D1010 failure again & the non running D7018 it did not work out too well this year.
