Distillery yard micro layout - back out on the exhibition circuit

Thanks Chris, it's not an 07 and it's not a shunter either. I've built Dapol kits to varying levels of success but I think I will try a parkside kit. I do need a 21 ton coal hopper....

Kits are lots of fun to build (well the one wagon I built was) and also they're a nice way of keeping the cost down and variety up

I'll guess a Heljan class 26 then?

If you have not done a Parkside kit before, it may be worth starting with a steel sided open (such as kit PC01A; these were fairly widely used for carrying whisky barrels/casks), or perhaps one of the van variants, as these are more straightforward to build (and importantly, to assemble 'square') than the hopper wagons which are a little more complex? Just a suggestion of course.

Atb,

Martyn.

Thanks Martyn, I'll check that out. Spot on with the loco guess by the way.

Well I got home today after sixth form and I had a nice big parcel waiting for me. A bit of an anti climax as its only a small box of seafoam and some bags of scatter to make some trees. post-32204-0-64831100-1537373167_thumb.jpg I'm quite excited to make some trees as I've never done it before. The sea foam loos really good and not a bad price either. Hopefully my Hattons order will come soon so I can have a play with the 26 and get the rest of the kadees I need. Thanks for looking. :)

Look what turned up in the post today! Now fitted with a DCC decoder it joins the distillery rosta. post-32204-0-96761800-1537463603_thumb.jpg This is such a fantastic model and an absolute bargain at £60 new from Hattons (I did buy the last one in stock for that price) it will need a good weathering then some disks fitting. My only complaint is that I will have to remove some of the stunning buffer beam to fit a coupling.

Really looks at home there.

It seems that the managers of the railway line will be doing some inspection work from now on thanks to the delivery of their new inspection saloon. post-32204-0-94118300-1537607623_thumb.jpg I've been wanting one of these models for quite some time now and it is fantastic. I've never had a Bachmann coach before and it is absolutely brilliant. I think that at £55 it could have a few more features like working lights but that's not a hard job for me to sort out. Also on the list to do with this model is to paint the interior, fit passengers and weather it. Im quite busy at the moment but am planning on getting some trees made soon. I think it will be one of those jobs which doesn't take forever but makes a massive difference to the overall appearance of the layout. Thanks for looking. :)

Thanks Steve and Woody, your kind comments are very encouraging. :) Over the last two days I've been working away at a new lineside hut and beginning to paint up some of the details for the layout. Firstly the lineside hut is an all card construction with a plasticard roof. The bbricks used as the foundations are very small and are stuck on individually. A bit fiddly and time consuming but worth the effort. I'm not happy with the overall paint finish of the model so I may repaint it at a later date but at least the actual hut is completed. Like the rest of the buildings I will leave them loose to the last minute then stick them down with the smallest amount of glue. The details I have begun painting are the whiskey barrels/kegs that I bought from scale model railway scenery. So far they have been treated with 3 thin coats of valleyo cork brown acrylic paint. I may give them another coat before I paint the ribbing but I'm not sure yet. These will be barrels that will stand exposed (not as a wagon load) so I want to get a good general finish from them. Here is a picture of them:attachicon.gifIMG_20180830_084638949.jpg A quick question, would I need to paint the top of the barrel a different colour (ie: white/red/blue) as I have seen prototype pictures of distillerys with different coloured barrel tops?.

I like this quirky little hut, Luke. Layout is looking really good!

Bit of a boring bit of progress today. It's taken over an 1 hour to paint all the metal ribbing on the 20 casks for the distillery. I do intend to get more but they are quite fiddly to paint especially when you have to paint the metal ribs free hand with little in the way to guide you.post-32204-0-73739400-1537903251_thumb.jpg I'm quite pleased how they look and have begun glueing some of the down on the layout.

Guest mydadstoys

Luke there is nothing boring about painting the straps on wooden barrels as you have definitely done a great job and they look really nice.

Strange visitor to the layout tonight, never seen a loco like it before...... (I'm not talking about the 26)post-32204-0-41263800-1538159641_thumb.jpg The camera is by far not the best for layout photography but you can get close down to the track level. I hope to share these photos with you soon, I needed to take some photos for an exhibition manager but they will be out up here as well. The layout is currently far from finished so I've tried to take photos of finished areas. Thanks for looking. :)

Morning everyone, here are the pictures I took of the layout the other evening. They're not the greatest, just quick snaps on an old digital camera.post-32204-0-82215000-1538293822_thumb.jpgpost-32204-0-26218900-1538293835_thumb.jpgpost-32204-0-64366000-1538293849_thumb.jpgpost-32204-0-29779000-1538293864_thumb.jpgpost-32204-0-70187200-1538293884_thumb.jpgpost-32204-0-24388100-1538293900_thumb.jpg Thanks for looking. :)
