Don't forget, I'm hoping this will be interactive rather than me simply posting photos which are already available on my Flickr - thanks to Billy for answering the above question, anyone with any information please contribute, as long as any wanderings aren't too distant or too prolonged that's fine. Use it or lose it as they say.  I have been having serious thoughts about continuing as it takes a fair bit of time and if it's all one sided then, like a lot of things in life, I might as well lock the thread and pull the shutters down. I know there's a lot of signalling stuff at the moment but blue diesels are on the horizon, as is Dinting Rail Centre and lots of other stuff, I've currently scanned over 3k photos so there's a good way to go to even catch up with the scanning, never mind the negs yet to be scanned.

Dymo tape was all the rage then........

I regularly saw the 40s but never picked out 40095 with the flush plated doors at one end.

Cheers,

Mick

Really good shots for adding/checking detailing there. How did they smuggle the Class 24?

I think it was taken to Southport on a tenuous journey and then "accidentally" went onto the preserved bit and didn't get out again. This may be a drivers embellishment of the facts but it was what was told to me.

Keep them coming as far as I'm concerned Dave, I did a fair bit bit of spotting in the area, albeit a few years before your pics, so it's interesting to see the infrastructure which I didn't really take a lot of notice of.

Just to show I'm paying attention I can post a like after each set?, or take this as a like for the whole lot!

The likes I see as an indication people are looking at the thread.

Personally I "like" posts from other people to acknowledge the posting - for example Dave has a fantastic thread going and I like each of his photo posts, not all are of major interest to me, but I know he's taken time and effort to post it, so I acknowledge that with a like however It's the interaction I'm after - I've asked a couple of times for DMU experts to assist with identifying the classes in photos, I know I could research and find out but then I'd have less time to scan, catalogue and post the photos so like signalling questions I was hoping that those in the know would assist.

I did wander away from the Wirral, there are North Wales photos soon, Reading, Doncaster, Dundee, March, Guide Bridge ( including 76s) all sorts of places will appear in time, I've currently posted around 167, I have catalogued 1600 and scanned 3000 with a further 1500 on the "to scan" list - and then I move to the next negative album, and there are several more to get through after that.

Loving the photos of the times when I was out & about spotting & photting.

Most of my B & W Negs were lost in a house move.

DMU classes, unless they have the class as part of the set number, I struggle, so not much help from me there.

I don't know well the areas you have shown so far, but please keep up the good work.

Regards

Ian

The one at Hawarden was another 108.

Yes keep 'em coming. Great photos and feedback.

Is the last DMU a 108? Looks like one but I think Market65 will definitely know.

I very rarely 'like' anything, not because I don't like it but because 99.9% of the time I read this forum I do so on my mobile and the mobile version has no means to do it (or at least I've never found it) and I would guess that a lot of people view the forum in the same way?

I like BR blue, and am enjoying the photos, but I am no signalling expert, and I rarely visited the North West.

I did get to Mollington Street, so that brought back memories. Freight trains and yards I always find interesting,

Thanks for taking the time to post them,

cheers

I'm very much enjoying the photos, especially as so far they are mainly of places I never got round to visiting when I lived in Manchester and could fairly easily have gone to photograph them - if I could have afforded it as a student.

It's also very nice to see photos which show infrastructure as well as trains.

Ok, thanks for the support - it's nice to know people are looking at the thread. Although the viewing count goes up, this can be bots doing their things so not necessarily a true reflection of interest, simple click shows this.

It's a juggling act at the moment, balancing taking new photos, scanning photos, needing huge amounts of disk space (I have 7TB of disk in my machine and thats almost gone, I'm going to replace the 2TB with another 6TB drive to give me just over 10TB of usable space - and I view this as temporary, I have lots of TB of external NAS drives), cataloguing things (and modifying the software to fit my way of doing this), backing them up, uploading over my damp string connection and just feeling hot and CBA  - but I will continue. It's great scanning old photos that I haven't seen for years and remembering the good old days, scary that the ones I'm currently scanning were taken 37 years ago and I was in my twenties at the time -  I'm getting old !

Onwards and upwards. more photos along soon.

Hi Beast,

If I could add my words of encouragement. I do enjoy immensely looking at your photos (and those of DaveFs in a similar manner), as I view them as a great historical record of rolling stock, engines and the infrastructure (probably of most interest to me personally) of the way things used to be, and compare them with today's railway - especially of the areas I haven't visited much over the years. I admit I may be a little conservative with providing feedback and "likes", but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy your postings. I encourage you to keep up the most excellent work, and in return I'll make the extra effort to increase my feedback rate.

Regards, Ian.

I just love these two photos as they answer so much in relation to the window woodwork.

(..but thanks for all the material and a cracking thread.)

How many noticed the windows in DAS000162 ?

I know I wouldn't have if I was 'flicking' through a vast album of photos.

Hawarden Bridge 2/11/1979, the day of abolition.

The box had been switched out for about 6 months ( a Stoke Division practice I was told) and was finally to be taken out of use. I had applied to buy the diagram - now in the Beast's tender care) so I went with the S&T to view my purchase!

Note the Welwyn block releases (the grey boxes) on the front of the block shelf and the replacement LNWR design block instruments.

The diagram after removal from the frame; the S&T also gave me a spare copy that was in a cupboard.

Finally, the up home , down starter co-acting signals photo taken 1/4/1978 from a Wirral Railway Circle tour.

Normally, the ex-LNWR boxes had two bars where the windows opened and one bar when they didn't. Port Sunlight Sidings 24/6/1977.

I was thinking the same thing, when I saw those phots, but wasn't the number of bars influenced by the existence (or lack of) of external walkways to clean the windows?
