Our Visit to the RhB

We had fantastic time in Switzerland on our European road trip to Italy. Celerina was gorgeous, as was the drive over the Albula Pass and then the Bernina Pass. We stopped so Daddy could take photos of the Landwasser Viaduct, and then spent a wonderful day at Samedan celebrating the Railway Festival.

Some Photos:

Looks like fun - I like the lash-up of an Allegra unit + single old coach + new push-pull coach set, and also the level crossing scene.

That was our train back to Celerina, I had to sit in it, rather than the old one. Mrs Wollastonblue has said she would like to go back and tour Switzerland a bit further (even thought about doing it by train)!

If you do, try to visit the museum of Swiss Model Railway Foundation at Crans Montana. It has static displays of many of the Swiss rolling stock released over the years in model form, of course, mostly HO. There's also some Maerklin O gauge dating back to the 1920s to ehich Meccano/Hornby tinplate O gsuge bears a remarkable similarity. It's well worth the visit, IMHO. To get there, take a train to Sierre/Siders and follow the markers to the SMC funi(cular). At the funi top station come out and turn left, and it's a short walk to the museum, IIRC.

Lovely pics and yes the older coaches are the best for enjoying the scenery :)

Glad you had fun :) Look at Swiss passes, they cover the trains, lake steamers and postbuses and even bits of some cable cars that serve villages up the mountain.

One of the few places you can get away with no car for a two week holiday and just sit back and enjoy the scenery. In addition to the RhB the Zentralbahn from Luzern to Interlaken is rather nice too ;)

Good stuff! off to the same area in July, hopefully the weather stays just as nice for us.

Where was the LGB layout?

The LGB layout was part of a display by them in the engine house at Samedan. There was a set for Little Wollastonblue to have a go with, other children were running them at high speed, but my little man said it was too fast, and started to shunt the siding.

Looks like the Marklin display layout as I've seen one like that in other pics of new releases.

Top lad on the shunting :)
