Have you tried Araldite? I use the 'classic' slow-setting version even for fixing small parts, (like the Fox discs and Dapol head & tail lights). Hopefully it'll set straight if you support the loco upside-down.

Has anyone managed to do anything to improve the volume of the speaker in these? Was wondering if it just wasn't sealed properly but its a bit of a tight fit to try and get the speaker out for a nosey.

how loud do you want 

 

 

plenty loud enough for my tastes

I decided to be brave and opened up the tender fully, turns out the speaker "enclosure" is practically just a little bit of transparent plastic stuck to the bottom of the speaker. Replaced it with one of the bases from an ESU sugarcube kit and its a fair bit better.
