I would leave them black Chuffers. Maybe flick a large soft brush over them to see if they will burnish. I have a few spanners that belonged to my Dad and they are probably in the region of 60+years old. All dark. Not a hint of chrome.

Thanks Rob

I’m going to go with @Martin S-C‘s suggestion of dry brushing first

Having used a blackening solution on the brass I think the brass would end up showing through being as heavy handed as I am

I’ve purchased a couple of figures from Hardys Hobbies that I hope I can position in such a way that they look like they are working in the shed without having to alter them (I skill I’m yet to master)

I’ve used ‘Fred’ as an example of what I’m thinking

It has put the shed build back a little while I wait for them to arrive.... I’d be useless on the Great Model Railway Challenge, I work too damn slow

I keep forgetting this is 4mm, it could easily pass for 7mm.

Great stuff.

High praise indeed, thank you

Its definitely 4mm thats why it takes me so long.....I have to wait periodically for my eyes to uncross

That latest shot showing the inside of the shed looks very realistic and atmospheric, amazing modelling.

Thanks guys :)

Unfortunately I've left the pound coin in the shed, I needed that for my coffee at work

That could be true of old spanners but on Chris' layout they are newish and in regular use.

I have to say that I disagree, when I first started working on cars and bought myself some AF and Whitworth spanner sets, they were mostly blackened, not shiny.

Thanks Steve,

I just couldn’t resist seeing if it could be done.

Plus it would have looked daft having a bloke operating it without a drill bit in the chuck
