Schooner
Chuffers, you beauty! The work you're doing for the pillar drill is bloody good, and bloody clever Absolutely exemplary modelling in approach, method and results - thank you so much for sharing your progress. It's always a pleasure to catch up with this thread, and the last five pages or so are particularly fine. I don't know how you do it, but it's great to be able to follow along All the best, Christmas is coming... Schooner ps. Would Fred have heaved that dirty great sledge on to the top shelf having used it? I suppose it depends if it was in regular use or not... Where it is looks like the final resting place of a tool brought in for a particular job, then moved about the shed until it was found a home where it was out of the way, perhaps half-forgotten, part of the furniture of Fred's peripheral vision... This is the sort of existential dilema modelling of such quality brings about

RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted October 4, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 4, 2019 (edited) I’ve modified the vice slightly after placing it on the pillar drill as what I’d done looked too wide When I get home this evening I may have a look at adding a base plate and replacing the handle with thinner wire as it’s a little over scale which will become more apparent with a figure standing next to it but it is what it is Edited October 4, 2019 by chuffinghell 6

RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted October 4, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 4, 2019 I was going to put a simple retacular piece of styrene in the vice painted in a steel colour, unless I can find something in my 'bits box' that is a little more interesting

RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted October 4, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 4, 2019 (edited) I thought this might look more interesting than a rectangular block of steel, giving the impression of running repairs? Also justifies the fact I accidentally glued the table too low Edited October 4, 2019 by chuffinghell 10 1
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted October 4, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 4, 2019 (edited) The pillar drill needs a handle to lower the drill bit, either one of those four arm crossed bars., or a single long lever. RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted October 4, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 4, 2019 Ah, I sit corrected. I was expecting to see it on the right, but being a leftie that would be awkward for me. Kudos to your fitter for having the machine adapted to suit himself.

RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted October 5, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 5, 2019 (edited) My figures from Hardys Hobbies arrived this morning He’s a bit too clean at the moment looks like gluing the table too low was a happy accident His hand is quite close to the lever too (even though you’ll never see him from this side) I’m quite chuffed with how it’s worked out, although more luck than judgement Edited October 5, 2019 by chuffinghell

RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted October 5, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 5, 2019 (edited) I’ll be putting another guy to work soon Once I’ve decided what he’s doing I might put him at the end of the bench using the bench grinder? Good job it’s not for the Great Model Railway Challenge otherwise they’d expect sparks to be flying off the grinder too ........No! Just No Edited October 5, 2019 by chuffinghell Another photo added
RMweb Gold Rowsley17D Posted October 5, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 5, 2019 It's touches like this that bring a model railway to life even though there's not an item of rolling stock in sight. 2

Thank you I realise you’d previously mentioned about not putting in another bench and spacing the items out but it still looked a bit bare Didn't want you to think I ignored your advice as I appreciate all suggestions and advice Chris ”Rolling Stock”?.....I knew I was missing something Edited October 5, 2019 by chuffinghell
RMweb Gold BlueLightning Posted October 5, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 5, 2019 Chris, Watching the work you are doing has me looking at the loco shed on my layout, with it's large windows and 2 sets of wide open doors I think I might have to add some detail similar to yours, because this looks fantastic!! Truly inspiring modelling! Gary

RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted October 6, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 6, 2019 (edited) Dave’s at the drill Ben’s at the bench* (*originally Graham on the grinder but that could be misinterpreted) Just the atmosphere I was going for Edited October 6, 2019 by chuffinghell 8
RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted October 6, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 6, 2019 I suppose I’d better make sure a loco runs in and out before gluing down the shed 1

RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted October 6, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 6, 2019 (edited) I’ll have to design a ‘cleaning thingy on a stick’ kinda device To be honest a loco probably won’t be entering the shed that often in normal operation I’m one of those people that believes that regardless of whether it’s used or not if it’s supposed to work it should Edited October 6, 2019 by chuffinghell
RMweb Gold Alister_G Posted October 6, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 6, 2019 I bet Dave's wife is unhappy when he comes home and dumps that shirt in the wash! Just brilliant modelling Chris, superb! Al.
