I bet Dave's wife is unhappy when he comes home and dumps that shirt in the wash!

Just brilliant modelling Chris, superb!

Thanks Al

I did wonder if I’d gone a little overboard with the dirt, if Mrs. Dave asks the silly s*d fell over in the yard

Not at all mate, like most modelling, you have to exaggerate features to make them visible at these scales. If you look at your more distant shot below the closeup, it works perfectly.

Closeups will always look wrong.

This would be ‘as viewed’ at the usual operating height

lights out, voltage reduced to approximately 3-4v. Possibly still too bright but I can adjust down to as low as 2.5v

Adding a blob of glue ‘n glaze into the bucket has given it a nice water filled effect

Thanks Al

I nearly glued the shed in place last night

Luckily I didn't because I've not painted/fitted the guttering and downpipes yet so although it's not 100% finished I'm close to crossing it off the ever expanding list of things to be done

it’s on the opposite side, I’ve chosen an operator with his left arm raised (thought it rude to have is back to us )

It also allows me to place him closer to the drill and not have to concern myself with the exact position of his hand (because it’s out of sight) so I’ve purposely removed the handle on the ‘viewer side’

Although there is a three arm handle on the far side

Our pillar drill at work has had the lever moved over to the left, the fitter is right handed and he says it allows him to hold the vice steadier in his right hand

How interesting - I've never seen that before.

but I got a bit carried away

Interesting comment Chris. I really do like what you're doing here but perhaps it's time to think about stopping as far as this particular piece of work is concerned - I sense that it's all getting a bit too "busy". Less is more and all that. If I were in your shoes, I'd be getting worried about the time it would take to do everything on the rest of the layout to the same standard.

I stress that this is not a criticism, just a friendly suggestion.

Now the engine shed is finished I’ve turned my attention back to the platform/water crane

Where I left off

I’d drawn these up and had them 3D printed

Fitted the drain last night and flashed over a coat of light grey

And trial assembled

I didn’t like the hopper that came with the kit, it looked like a birdbath. I drew this based on actual GWR drawings of a hopper

There’s no real time limit, I’ve basically got between now and when I’m put in a box six feet underground

looking at the photos I'm concerned that the hopper makes the drain looks a bit too small?...could be the angle of the photo?

Looked okay on the 3D model

I'll have to see what it looks like once its painted up, worst case I'll have to make the whole thing again

I think it's simply because the drain is all the same colour as the surrounding paving. Once you've painted it it will look right, I'm sure.

Platform fencing position

Should it go on the inside of the edging stones

or the outside of the edging stones

You have to think about how it would be built in real life:

would they have taken the time to make a nice neat hole round every fence post, or just attached the posts to the back wall of the platform and built the fence on them?

I suggest the latter, so the fence would be at the back, behind the platform.

This is on the outside which actually looks quite good

however, I intended to put gates perpetually to the back fence to help disguise the baseboard join with a sign on the gate “no passengers beyond this point”

So I’m wondering if maybe this would be an acceptable compromise?

I must admit I thought it would go on the inside of the edging stones and the paving cut around the posts keeping the edging stones intact

I’ve been trying to find a photograph on ‘tinernet as an example but I’m struggling
