If you look at your more distant shot below the closeup, it works perfectly. Closeups will always look wrong. Al

Al This would be ‘as viewed’ at the usual operating height lights out, voltage reduced to approximately 3-4v. Possibly still too bright but I can adjust down to as low as 2.5v Adding a blob of glue ‘n glaze into the bucket has given it a nice water filled effect 7

Thanks Al I nearly glued the shed in place last night Luckily I didn't because I've not painted/fitted the guttering and downpipes yet so although it's not 100% finished I'm close to crossing it off the ever expanding list of things to be done Edited October 7, 2019 by chuffinghell

I really do like what you're doing here but perhaps it's time to think about stopping as far as this particular piece of work is concerned - I sense that it's all getting a bit too "busy". Less is more and all that. If I were in your shoes, I'd be getting worried about the time it would take to do everything on the rest of the layout to the same standard. I stress that this is not a criticism, just a friendly suggestion. 1
RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted October 9, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 9, 2019 (edited) Now the engine shed is finished I’ve turned my attention back to the platform/water crane Where I left off I’d drawn these up and had them 3D printed Fitted the drain last night and flashed over a coat of light grey And trial assembled I didn’t like the hopper that came with the kit, it looked like a birdbath. I drew this based on actual GWR drawings of a hopper Edited October 9, 2019 by chuffinghell

RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted October 9, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 9, 2019 (edited) looking at the photos I'm concerned that the hopper makes the drain looks a bit too small?...could be the angle of the photo? Looked okay on the 3D model I'll have to see what it looks like once its painted up, worst case I'll have to make the whole thing again Edited October 9, 2019 by chuffinghell

I think it's simply because the drain is all the same colour as the surrounding paving. Once you've painted it it will look right, I'm sure. I suggest the latter, so the fence would be at the back, behind the platform. Al.
RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted October 9, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 9, 2019 (edited) This is on the outside which actually looks quite good however, I intended to put gates perpetually to the back fence to help disguise the baseboard join with a sign on the gate “no passengers beyond this point” So I’m wondering if maybe this would be an acceptable compromise? I must admit I thought it would go on the inside of the edging stones and the paving cut around the posts keeping the edging stones intact I’ve been trying to find a photograph on ‘tinernet as an example but I’m struggling Edited October 9, 2019 by chuffinghell
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted October 9, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 9, 2019 Would the gate open next to the water column? I agree with Al that clipped to the back edge makes the most sense.
