Thanks Andy I'll be using stiff nickel silver wire I’m still not sure if I should do as @Alister_G has done and paint the whole lot or just paint the posts and leave the wire self colour Edited November 22, 2019 by chuffinghell

RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted November 25, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 25, 2019 (edited) Well this is the best I can do Sarah says it looks more realistic because it’s a bit wonky but I think she’s just trying to make me feel better because she knows how particular I am Edited November 27, 2019 by chuffinghell 14

RMweb Gold Alister_G Posted November 25, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 25, 2019 That looks really good. I think Sarah's right, too, if you had done it absolutely geometrically precise then it would have looked wrong. Cracking job! Al. 4
RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted November 25, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 25, 2019 Sarah did say that if I’d done it perfectly she’d have made it ‘wonky’ herself anyway
Andrew P
Sarah's spot on mate, a little wonky never hurt anyone, bear in mind some would have been done, after Lunch at the Pub, haha. Looks really good now Chris.
RMweb Gold Adrian Stevenson Posted November 25, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 25, 2019 Listen to your good lady. She is right. Just look at real line side fences. They are never perfect. I must admit though I am like you and like things just so! Cheers, Ade. 1

sb67
Very nice Chris, I'm a fan of Scale Model Scenery stuff and you've used it to great effect there. It looks pretty natural to me, as said too precise wouldn't have the same effect. Steve. 1
RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted November 26, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 26, 2019 I need to tone down the 'rust' on the wire. I used Humbrol 'rust' powder but I think it's a bit too orange so I'm going to use dark earth too
RMweb Gold Rowsley17D Posted November 26, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 26, 2019 That post and wire fence certainly outdoes the Peco stuff, no contest. 1

RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted November 26, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 26, 2019 (edited) Having miscalculated the length of the wire fence it left me with a gap.....which has now been filled with shrubbery Basically off-cuts from a seafoam tree that didn’t turn out properly Edited November 26, 2019 by chuffinghell 5

RMweb Gold Alister_G Posted November 26, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 26, 2019 You see, you shouldn't have said anything about misjudging the length, it was planned all along... Looks good. Just right. Al.

Thanks Al I don’t mind admitting when things haven’t gone quite to plan but I’m very happy with the solution I’m always problem solving at work either when I’ve drawn something wrong or something hasn’t been made right to the drawings
RMweb Gold Alister_G Posted November 26, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 26, 2019 My view is this: I post to my threads to show the process of my builds, in the hope that others can learn from them. If I only ever post the perfect result, it's just showing off. Folk learn much more if I'm honest about my screw-ups, and show how I got round them. On occasion, I have had to scrap stuff and start again through silly mistakes, or lack of knowledge, but hopefully these show other people how to avoid the same mistake. Does that sound completely pretentious? Sorry if it does, that's not how I meant it. Al. 3

Well honesty is the best policy I’m one of those who is inspired by your posts and learn from your methods and techniques I like to see step by step progress as it helps me a lot, I also find by posting my own progress photos I can look back at how I did something when I need to replicate it (or avoid doing it) So not pretentious at all
RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted November 26, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 26, 2019 (edited) I’ve been wondering how to ‘mark’ the position of the magnets I’ve put in the track for the uncoupling (using the Brian Kirby method) I’ve trimmed a ‘tree’ so it’s flat on the back (where it goes up against the wall) and wondered about using the tree as a marker? As an added bonus trimming the back of the tree has left me with more shrubbery Edited November 26, 2019 by chuffinghell 7
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted November 26, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 26, 2019 I've added a little spot of yellow paint on the sleeper end, which looks like algae/moss, unless you know. 2
