I do hate it when manufacturers mix up gauge and scale. Does this mean our EM and P4 friends cannot have them on their layouts?

I must admit I’d not noticed it said OO scale instead of OO gauge :o

I think items marked OO/HO is worse, it’s either one or the other

Sadly, that's a legacy of the British railway modelling tradition, as we use 1:76th scale (4mm = 1 foot)  vehicles on 1:87th scale (3.5 mm = 1 foot) track.

But then you have the other problem, that most plastic kits and accessories are nominally 1:72nd scale which is actually 1 inch = 6 feet, which is slightly larger than 4mm.

It's a nightmare, really... :)

Yes and no. For things like animals and humans, the two are kinda interchangable.

A 1.7m tall human in 00 scale is just a 1.9m scale human in H0.

How big are rabbits?

My beef is that 00 is a gauge not a scale (okay a variable gauge between 16.2 and 16.5mm) so only stuff that runs on the track should be described as 00 gauge, the other things are 4mm scale.

I've been thinking about more fencing, I'm assuming I've got to use post and wire again so I've sketched it out with a few options

The red line is the fencing recently added (I only have an older photo to hand that shows a full plan view)

Options

  1. Yellow line, all the way round following the landscape
  2. Cyan line, break between the back of the engine shed
  3. Green, broken between a hut (part of the ratio ES kit) shown in grey

Thoughts?

Hi Chris, there wouldn't usually be a fence at the top of an embankment but at the bottom. The railway company would have had to buy the land to make the embankment so any fence would need to be near the baseboard edge, if I remember your topography correctly.

Ah so in effect I don’t really have to bother with fencing that side, it can simply be assumed that the fencing is ‘off the board’ so to speak

You're saved quite a bit of time and money there. Thank you

So basically the removable section is finished (short of a few tweeks here and there)

I had thought of adding another tree on the open grassed area maybe? but other than that I have no excuse not to do some work on the rest of the layout

I’ve decided to have a look at the low relief Station Building.

I’ve got some Peco buildings I got cheap on Ebay so I’m going to have a go at kit bashing. Luckily I can do what I like as Warren isn’t based on a real place.

It will give be a better idea on the platform shape at the back

We’re using the ‘layout room’ as a dining room over Christmas  so I’ve promised to keep it tidy and make sure to put all my toys away

Good choice. Peco kits are a kitbasher's best friend. You can make loads of really nice stuff with them as I know from experience.

I’ll certainly have a try, plus being low relief I only need to use half the parts so if I mess up the first try I can have another go

Have you got any links to photos of the stuff you’ve done for inspiration

I felt that the blue-tac used last year for the drawing office Christmas tree didn’t do it justice

So when I got home I updated it for this year

Who knows next year I might upgrade it further and have a flashing LED, office decoration budget permitting of course

Merry Christmas
