Okay so once the front window is in you probably won’t see it

As previously said I’m definitely a basket short of a picnic

Not had chance to do much so far this week other than decide the white skirting and window sill looked too modern so I’ve painted them brown

And I’ve attempted to make the station master a fireplace for the back wall out of styrene strips, fiddly at only 12.5mm (1/2”) wide

It needs a little work before final painting as it looks a bit rough at the moment (the primer has highlighted some areas that require attention)

That fireplace is a work of art. I’d never guess it was built up of styrene strip. Fiddly? At 12.5mm wide, I’d say so!

Thanks for helping me decide what colour to stain the skirting in my “railway room”* by the way! I didn’t want white skirting, but had a mental block!

(*best not let T’Missus see this; she thinks it’s our loft...)

Paul, you can go off people you know...

I was going to show one of my fireplaces, but I feel it's quite poor against yours.

I agree, it looks fine.

Mind you, you could fit a flickering red LED...

Thank you

To be quite honest, once the windows are in place you won't be able to see it that well

Having decided the fireplace I had done was poo (and embarrassing in comparison to other's work) I have given it a new home. It currently lives in the wheelie bin awaiting its final destination to a land fill

I will attempt MKII this evening

Looked a reasonably good model of a blocked up fireplace to me. Just needed a small oil filled electric radiator in front of it.

Or even a wall mounted radiator:office.jpg

Thanks Stu

My original intention was to glue on a photo of a fireplace that I'd printed off

I'm going to attempt to make something instead

Having spent about an hour wrestling a 1mm x 6mm scrap of 15thou styrene into position to replicate the brake lever stay on a Diag 1/108 mineral wagon last night, I salute your dedication to modelling fine detail!

I think it’s more insanity than dedication but thank you :D

Looks good.   I'm 29 and I can't work that small.

Thank you,

I’m currently making the surround.

I’m going for a black fire and hearth, creme back panel and a mahogany surround. I might even pop in some real coal.

The crayon is still drying....

And the glue

Also whilst on a visit to Paris the Station Master came across a painting hung up in some gallery, he thought would look much better in his living room so he took it, he didn’t think anyone would notice

It looks ‘mucky’ in the last photo because I’ve not brushed off the coal dust (waiting for the glue to dry)
