I’ve finished the roof (not much to it though reallly) added filler where needed and left it overnight. First thing I did when I got home from work was sand down the filler, file the openings square and lay down a coat of primer

I'm really pleased how it’s turned out, I glued in a couple of gussets to hold its shape so it can be easily removable (hopefully)

I wasn’t too happy with the truss frame though mainly because I struggled to fill the gaps so I’m redoing it, however having rechecked my drawing of the shed body the original thickness of the styrene would be okay (just looked too thin)

I’d rather do it more than once and be happy with it than f@rt about trying to turn a sow's ear into a silk purse

Plus I didn’t take as much care with making it as I should have, I kinda rushed it to get it done

I’m still holding off ordering the body from Shapeways until I know what the deal is with import duty etc

I’m assuming it’s now the same as it used to be ordering outside of Europe (ie you pay the VAT and duty to the courier) but Shapeways doesn’t appear to be able to give  me a definite answer

I've gone to UK companies for quotes but they tend to be twice the price, so much for buying UK

There's a thread in 3d printing about outsourcing companies, I haven't tried any of them so can't recommend one but some look okay and apparently allow you to see a approximate cost of the finished item. I would offer to print it for you but my Aldi FDM printer is not a good enough quality ( I only paid £150 for it). Simon

You can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, but you can use it to make a novelty mobile phone case.....

I was originally going to say you can’t polish a t*rd but you can roll it in glitter

Thank you for the offer :)

Ideally I'd want it SLS printed as that tends to be cheaper because there’s no need for support material and the textured finish is good for stone look buildings (in my opinion at least)

I’ll probably just take the chance and see what happens but until then I might as well build/kit bash everything else

For small detailed parts I’ve been buying from CWRailways

When I first started to draw up this goods shed I was asked by a few members if I could make it available on Shapeways for purchase..........so I have

I've done two versions

Version 1 (no internal detail)

OO Gauge Goods Shed Shell (Version 1)

Version 2 (with internal detail)

OO Gauge Goods Shed Shell (Version 2)

Version 2 has much thicker walls and is therefore more expensive

I do not accept responsibility for the need to sell a kidney to purchase one

Started looking at the interior platform, first I used slaters sheet

but I wasn’t keen so I’ve settled for a butchered up piece of Ratio platform edging (afterwards I remembered I was saving it for the canal sides....oops)

Never mind because it looks better, to me anyway

I will file the mortar grooves on the corners once the solvent has done it’s stuff

I'm liking the way that this is going....

I’ve started adding the steps so fingers crossed it’ll be in primer by the weekend

I’ve also started to redo the trusses and I’m happier with how these are going

I’ve used a saw to put a fine groove where the ‘timbers’ join

They look a mess at the moment but I still need to do some sanding

I’m planning on having this done over the weekend too...I’m on a mission!

They are looking as good as anything you would find in a kit, really very good. I like the overhang on the steps too, not something that you often see modelled, the attention to detail sets it apart.

I have just cleared everything off the two station boards, to finish getting the track and point motors wired then blast everything with sleeper grime and dark rust. Next job is the ballasting that someone keeps reminding me that they've volunteered for. So many opportunities to spend hours fiddling with connections and trying to make the trains run properly!

Thanks Rob, trying my best as always (I’m very trying apparently)

Once all the steps are on I need to round the corners

I also need to trim the back edge of the inner platform and have the wooden deck overhang slightly too, luckily it works out as finishing with a full brick :)

Nobody will know once the ridge timber is in anyway. Keep it up!

You’ll see it with the roof removed which is why I’ve made it neat, well it will be when filled and sanded

I’m not bothering with a ridge beam, you have to imagine that’s stuck to the roof with the purlins when its removed (I’m leaving a gap if I decided to put lighting in but shhh! that’s a secret! because it might not work)

For some reason I can’t get queens “I’m going slightly mad” out of my head.....

I think I’ve officially lost the plot

Well it will be in primer before the day is out :)

drilled the holes for the guttering

Even though the fascia boards and gutters will be in the same colour (dark stone) I’m going to prime them separately because I need to paint it all in a wood colour first then mask it to paint the bargeboards, fascia and gutters afterwards
