I’ve hung one of the large doors (I’ve had to re-paint the other one)

By not gluing them in place I might be able to open/close the doors with the roof removed.

Due to a slight design flaw I had positioned the double door track too high and the door hangers interfered with the roof trusses.....

....so I’ve lowered the track 2mm and I’m redoing the doors to compensate. This (in theory) will allow me to open and close the double doors too

I know it’s a silly detail and I don’t need too close them.....but the facility is there for photography purposes

Unless you've already attacked the old doors, you could always just raise the rest of the building by 2mm to clear the rail tops. I can't find a picture at the moment, but quite often the track looked to be slightly lower than the yard around. The GWR would have sidings slightly lower than the running lines to help prevent runaways onto a running line.

Thanks Simon

The end doors are okay and already clear the rails no problem so they don’t need altering

....it was the load area doors that were the problem and the only way to fix it is to lower the track and shorten the doors to clear the top of the inner platform as shown below

The issue was that in the position (above) I would not be able to move the doors because the hangers interfere with the roof truss beams

The modified doors are out of theatre now and are in ICU with a coat of primer so all will be back to normal tomorrow

There is another option for the doors  just lean them against the wall, there's a gang of men going round rehanging them, they'll be there soon, maybe...

hmmm I never seem to think of doing things an easier way

This is the goods warehouse at Cromford, note the big sign above the door: "Engine Must Not Enter This Warehouse"

You could have something similar.

The notice boards are Peco and I will paint them dark stone

Not sure if I should go for the small one or the big one, I prefer it without a white border though

A bit of Blutak on each and see which looks best!

It is difficult to say for sure until I mock one up on the building

I've definitely decided against the white border

I'll paint up the notice board frames in dark stone first to make a proper comparison although on the face of it the smaller one seems to be more in proportion to me

Nice work Chris.

Just to be contrary, I actually like the larger one with the border. It is meant to stand out, as a warning notice.

In today's modern environment it would be in flourescent red and yellow, and possibly have flashing lights... :D

Hi Chris,

I think a sign like that would have either been cast iron or painted lettering on plain board. Always white lettering on black in GWR days with the border white if it was cast.

And the wording would simply be optionally "Caution" or "Danger" followed by "Engines must not..." all in bold caps. (And I suggest the word "Goods" is superfluous.)

Personally I think it looks better to the right of the 'arch' probably less obstructed for the loco crew?

I've ordered some as they are relatively inexpensive

Agree with the bigger version and white edging but I'd stick with your version (with revised wording) - the arch mention makes it look like its been bought and used because nothing better was available off the shelf - your skills mean that's far from the case...

If you really want a cast version 3d print it?!!!!

I know that the Great Western wasn't exactly known for standardisation, but wasn't a sign like this something that they might have produced a "job lot" of?  I'm thinking about the "Beware of trains" signs, for example.

It's no good, I have to be the bearer of bad news. I was hoping KNP would spot it and save me from this. The strut on the inside of your personnel door goes the wrong way. My dad, a builder said the easy way to remember is hangman . See my sketch. The strut should be supporting the otherwise unsupported rail.
