Do you have an example of the type of sign that might be suitable?

This is mine from a Sankey sheet "Early Motive Power & Goods Signage.

I’ve made a start on the coal merchants this evening, made up the roof which fits nicely (surprisingly)

Same basic grey on the body and dark grey on the roof, I’ve also primed the door and window in snot green

I’ve moved the yard office back another 5mm across and 5mm further into the embankment (up to the step) it’s given me a little bit more room.

I appreciate five mill isn’t much (unless you work in a bank)

Not sure on the coal merchants door and window colour, I didn’t want to go for GWR light and dark stone as I would imagine as an independent business they wouldn’t have complied with the railways colours. I thought maybe a blue as a contrast?…I’m open to opinions

Although it’s only a primer I quite like the snot green

Wouldn't this be a brilliant name for a new layout ?????

On a more serious on-topic note, the shed is looking good. I agree it would be unlikely to be in Rly Co colours.

Chris, for the hut window frame ( and perhaps the door frame), would it be worth using a little filler between the frame and the wall/sill ?

possibly, although they are not fully ‘home’

once the paint is dry I’ll see what they look like all the way in

I demolished the same freebie kit to make my weighbridge office. The window has a slight taper for mould release purposes. I thinned mine down a little by sanding and cut off the location flange for a (vaguely! ) better fit!

I’ve decided to reprint the coal merchants at 99% in the hope that this will be sufficient to reduce the gaps around the door and window, if not I’ll just print it again at 98%

I’ve also made a few changes such as increasing the height of the chimney and correcting a few areas I wasn’t happy with

I set it printing this morning before leaving for work so it will be done by the time I get home so fingers crossed

Oops, sorry, didn't mean to cause so much re-work.

Maybe a coach repair depot with lots of bogies scattered about the place?

It’s really not a problem Stu, I wouldn’t have been able to cope with such a noticeable gap. Better to spot it now instead of after it’s finished

Although I’d measured accurately with a vernier I’d not noticed that the windows and doors had a very slight draft angle on them as @MrWolf mentioned.

The door aperture was drawn wrong anyway so it needed redoing, I wondered at the time why I had to cut the door down to fit :scratchhead:fortunately I’ve got another door from another kit

One of the advantages to having my own printer is it’s no bother to do a reprint so no harm done

I did my coal merchants' office doors in different colours when it was on my previous layout. Now that the righthand end office is for the weighbridge it needs to be in Midland red.

The building needs bedding but until the point rodding is complete behind the building it has to be removeable.

It's not as uncommon as you might think to make an entirely new shed to fit the door and window.

I did.

And if the site would upload the pictures, this post would have been a lot funnier...

Ha! Got the ******....

Printing it at 99% appears to have done the trick in reducing the apertures enough…..

….in fact the window and door are now a snug/push fit so I can’t do any better than that

They actually fit better than they do in the walls supplied in the Ratio kit

You can see from the photos below the mistake I made with the door

MKI

I accidentally aligned the bottom of the arches….

MKII

….instead of the top

I should have noticed this before cutting the door down

At least they won’t bang their heads on the top of the door frame now

MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh no!

After your previous post without a photo, I was fully expecting the photo to be of a real, 12"/ft scale shed, with recycled door and window...

Back when I had many sheds, they were mostly made from recycled materials, not only were they cheaper and many times more substantial than the flimsy stapled together rubbish that is available commercially, they blended in with the Victorian surroundings.
