RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted July 28, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 28, 2020 Project ‘AA6 toad’ is on hold at the moment whilst I’m waiting for some varnish and transfers to arrive, I appear to have used up all of my varnish during the time I was furloughed As for the transfers I’m going to attempt to use HMRS pressfix as they are the only transfers available with ‘PT Way Brake’ and ‘Construction’ although I’m pretty sure the ‘Construction’ transfer is too long to fit I've not had much success with pressfix in the past but I’ve ordered a set to try In the meantime I decided to bite the bullet and I’ve ordered one of my Loriot wagons from Shapeways that hopefully should arrive in a few days I’ve temporarily misplaced my mojo regarding the actual layout at the moment, hence my messing about with wagons but it’s all part of the same thing....just in the wrong order 2
RMweb Gold Rowsley17D Posted July 28, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 28, 2020 Hi Chris, if the HMRS transfers are new and put on gloss varnish, you shouldn't have a problem. Just use warm water as the backing comes off really quickly the warmer the water.

Thank you for the tips, I have ordered a new set from HMRS, I’m reluctant to buy them from eBay because you don’t know how long they’ve sat in a drawer somewhere I had just enough gloss to do one side and I’ve trial fitted the handrails removed from the now redundant Oxford Rail body... .....and they fit Edited July 29, 2020 by chuffinghell 8
RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted July 29, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 29, 2020 While I'm waiting for the transfers I've had a mess about on the computer to give myself an idea of what it might look like It looks black in the photo but its actually a very dark grey. I know it should be black but I didn't want to "paint it black" (even though its a great track) 6

From all I have seen discussed, black came about during BR days, no one has come up with any documentary evidence of black being used by the GWR, only old photos with unreliable exposures or vague speculation based on BR practice. 1 1

RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted July 30, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 30, 2020 (edited) I've put the body online for purchase should anyone wish to get ripped off by shapeways I've done two versions 1) Complete with a roof for lazy b*ggers like me https://www.shapeways.com/product/8G7TYKCY6/gwr-pt-way-toad-brake-van-inc-roof?optionId=171089939&li=shops 2) Without roof for proper modellers who can make one out of styrene (and save £8 on Shapeways extortionate prices) https://www.shapeways.com/product/8XLQC7HFA/gwr-pt-way-toad-brake-van-body-only?optionId=171083320&li=shops Edited July 30, 2020 by chuffinghell 2 1
RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted July 30, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 30, 2020 (edited) I've had a look at offering it as a kit to see if I can get the price down Each 'kit' works out roughly £8-10 cheaper than its assembled equivalent obviously I don't know if they will work the same and it will have to be glued to the chassis With a roof https://www.shapeways.com/product/93CJB3UJC/gwr-pt-way-toad-brake-van-kit-with-roof?optionId=171148169&li=shops Without a roof https://www.shapeways.com/product/U5F9YLYJK/gwr-pt-way-toad-brake-kit-without-roof?optionId=171157100&li=shops Edited July 30, 2020 by chuffinghell 4
RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted July 31, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 31, 2020 (edited) One of the main features of the kit is that if you buy two you can construct the lesser known Permanent NO-Way Brake Edited July 31, 2020 by chuffinghell 3

MrWolf
It looks pretty damn good to me, wouldn't mind it cluttering up a siding here. It would be a good replacement for the butchered Dublo one I have with a prewar Morris armoured car strapped to it. (Yes, it's in loading gauge and weight! ) How brittle is that material? I’m planning on it sitting in a siding with something strapped down (as yet to decide what) The material is quite brittle, they probably broke it whist they cleaned it, I’ve had it happen before

The majority of WW2 tanks weigh between thirty and sixty tons. Steamrollers are generally between ten and twenty tons. A big mystery machine crate with the name of one of the old engineering companies such as British Thompson Houston or Wildt Mellor Bromley stencilled on the side is a safe (and cheap!!) bet! 1
