Tortuga Posted November 3, 2020 Share Posted November 3, 2020 Just going to add my opinion on the goods yard entrance; I think a combination of ‘A’ and ‘the gate in a flat wall’; as in I think the wall should curve slightly into the goods yard, but not by a full 90 degrees, just enough to set the gate back from the road and allow easier turning for vehicles (horse-drawn or otherwise) into or out of the yard 1 1 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Light air brushing of grey and a bit of green weathering powder (haven’t got any olive green paint) Not sure if my photography is good enough to see? MrWolf Posted November 3, 2020 Share Posted November 3, 2020 I had a think about the yard entrance, I don't want to make you extra work, but a gateway flush with a wall like that is fine for livestock etc as in a field gate, but if you are wanting to turn loaded horse drawn carts ninety degrees from the road into the yard, you need more room, even a two wheeled cart pulled by a single horse is a good 15 feet long. A four wheel dray pulled by two horses is a good twenty. A bit confused now to be honest, are you suggesting a wider opening with curved walls and a double gate? Drawing A with the curved walls and recessed gate is probably more typical. Alternatively, can have a wider gateway that is level with the edge of the road and two five bar gates as with the goods yard at Lydham Heath on the Bishops Castle Railway. Oddly enough now that the yard is used for storing lorry trailers, it has reverted to a single gate set well back from the road and the fence is angled inward to meet it.
