I like the ground signal. Does it work? I have several to do.

It's a non-working one I'm afraid

It's just mounted on top of a sleeper (more accurately two sleepers glued together then trimmed to the same width as the point sleepers)

The plasticard and blutack are there to stop the ballast going where it's not supposed to..........in theory anyway

Great stuff and brilliant attention to detail! Superb modelling skills too!
Any updates on the rest of the layout?maybe an updated track plan or hows that progressing?

Keep up the good work, J

Thanks J

Not much going on with the rest of the layout at the moment as I wanted to practice on the removable section first

A rocky job you're having?

I'm redoing a section that I've never been entirely happy with (because I rushed it) and if I don't sort it out it will bug me, even though no one else would notice

Not had the opportunity to do much this week or this weekend so it doesn’t look like I’ve done anything other than glue down the ballast

I was hoping to be further along but slow progress is still progress

I’ve not done the ballast to the right of the point because I need to do the point rodding first

I've also redone the ash around the ash pit, once dry I’ll use the lighter ash as I did before

Also thinking of putting some coal on the track near and around the coaling stage, not too much though

Thank you,

It would be better still if I knew what I was doing

I’m just sticking stuff down and hoping for the best

A fair description of life in general I'd say...

Unfortunately, I become unstuck far too often.

All the best,

As well as the ‘stick it and see’ approach this forum and its members has been an invaluable source of help, tips and inspiration

The piles have been done in a similar way to @Rowsley17D's method on Derwent Spa of making heaps out of air-drying clay and applying ash over the top

The only differences are that I've used milliput instead of air-drying clay and @Rowsley17D's turned out better

This will have to do

That looks great Chris, I'd agree with Al though, will you be putting some in the pit?

I've come up with a layout idea that involves a small engine shed so I'll be looking at this thread with extra interest. I'd be pleased if it turns out like yours though.

Steve.

That looks really good, proper ash looking.

Maybe there should be some in the bottom of the pit though?

I will put some in the pit but not too much as I want to give the impression of it being cleaned/washed out

Yep, that's what I would have suggested. just a smidge in the bottom, and traces up the steps.

It's all looking very good indeed, lovely job.
