The carriages look great. I am not knowledgeable enough on LNER stock to say if there is an error.

on other fronts. I have got this far.

I think I can see how it will all go together. The cab is going to get enclosed as that seems the only way I can get enough support to the cab rear. Though I may play around with an inner cage and have the roof as an insert. We will see how that goes.

I had a few days away ‘mum sitting’ last week and managed to get a few hours in on the O gauge quad art while she was napping. It’s now looking like a train but still with lots of work to go.

 

 

I though I had broken the back of the job when I finished gluing together and painting the sides but takes a long time putting it all together. I’ll take it to the club tomorrow night to test the gaps on the curves before I decide which gap works best. Then there’s plenty of work on the underframe and the roof rain strips.

 

Oh… and the small matter of the other four coaches!

having built the 4mm version I empathize with finding out how many of each component has to be made/ fitted. 
I have got this far with the f2 parts which you were kind enough to let me have. 

thank you I have enjoyed the journey to try and turn it into a decent model.

That looks stunning - much prettier than my dirty BR black example! Did you use the creased brass tank overlays? If so you’ve done of straightening them up! Did you do the lining by hand - looks great.

I did use the overlays. Just took a little time rolling to ease out a crease or two and a small strut inside the top edge of the cab. 
the lining is all transfers from different sets to get shapes to fit. Mark’s for spotting A3 splasher lining. Corridor tender lining etc.

it took a couple of weeks longer to paint than if I had gone for unlined black livery of later years, but where would be the fun in that. ( though that was not what I said when I realized I was only half way through the lining after a week of evenings already doing it.)

I haven’t made much progress in finishing off the first half of the quad art but four days in a B&B gave me time to put together the sides fir the other half of the train. Here they are after sticking together and sorting out all the beading etc.

 

and now in teak basecoat (aka Halfords filler primer).

The rain on Saturday gave me a perfect excuse to stay in and paint. So I managed to get the second quad art to what I call the ‘measles’ stage. It will hopefully get the overall teak wash later today. I also did my OO gauge GNT BCK at the same time.

My latest project is an O gauge J69. I didn’t know that I wanted one of these, but fellow club member, Rob (@Woko) decided to 3D print a body and was asking me about chassis options. I suggested following the example in 00 gauge if putting a 3D printed J69 body on a terrier chassis as the wheelbase and diameter is more or less identical. My hand then ‘slipped’ on ebay and I ended up with a O gauge Dapol Terrier for £155 which was a bit of a bargain!

 

I loaned Rob the chassis to help him sort out the print to fit. In return for the suggestion and loan of my chassis, Rob very kindly printed me a body which I started on today. Here is the box of bits.

 

 

I gave the body a sand down and then Halfords grey followed by filler primer. There were some diagonal lines after the grey primer but they seem to have reduced after the filler primer and I’m confident that after a sand down tomorrow it will be pretty smooth. Then I have the job of trying to work out where all the bits fit on!

Back to the quad arts. I’ve been teaking and ‘decalling’ the sides for the second four vehicles. This is the progress to date.

 

I’m pleased with the way the teak has come out but I have hit a couple of snags.  The first is that I’ve run out of 1s and 3s for the doors. That is easily rectified.
 

However the other problem is more difficult. As built, the quad arts were unusual in having second class as well as first and third. So for this second set, the two shorter coaches were second class with the other two being 1st/ 3rd composites. The trouble is that I can’t find any ‘2’ transfers for the doors. Fox don’t do them and told me it wasn’t worth their while doing a special order. HMRS pressfix have six ‘2’s on one sheet but I need 24, so that would work out prohibitively expensive at over £20 per sheet in 7mm!

 

The closest match I can find is using 4mm loco numbers as shown in the picture above 6th side down). I’ve put this on the wrong coach to illustrate the idea as I didn’t want to muck up the finish on the right coach in case I have to leave them blank. 
 

I’d be grateful for people’s thoughts on whether this ‘2’ would pass muster at normal viewing distances and whether there are any other sources of ‘2’s I could consider.

I'd ask on here.   I've done that in the past when i've run out of Es for BR era numbering and I've had them donated from as far away as Australia.   No-one will use the 2s on their sheets unless they're doing as you do or modelling the Harwich Boat Train, so it's worth a punt.

 

In 4mm I could have sorted you out myself, except that I have a Quad to build at some time.....

Just a thought, Railtec advertise a bespoke transfer service and seem to have a good reputation.

 

I've never had any dealings with them, nor as yet used their products, but if they had a "1" and "3" as references it might not be too difficult.

I thought Railtec were mainly modern image but might be worth trying. I’ll see if I have any joy on the O gauge guild forum first.

Away from the quads, I’ve been making progress on the J69. I’ve now added all the detail although some of it broke in my clumsy hands and needed glueing back together. I went for brass for the handrails rather than the 3D printed ones.

 

Here she is ready for final priming. The white is where I had to fill the deeper diagonal lines.

I've probably got an HMRS LNER sheet that I bought just to do a couple of pigeon vans; I'll have a look and if they are on there, you will be welcome.

Not really migrated, just a foot in both camps!
