Does it need a bit of wildlife? Heron maybe - quite distinctive at a small scale?

All in due course.  Heron, ducks, geese, other water-birds if I can source them or adapt something such as coots, moorhens and a few gulls.  Even an egret.

The Waddle Marsh continues to grow.

Faced with the problem of having a river in a valley on a flat board I intend to build up the far bank with a low-level retaining wall and a little “land fill” back towards the headshunt siding.

More progress.

The opposite bank now exists. A card wall was faced with Scalescenes “Coursed Ashlar” printed at 67% to reduce the size of the blocks somewhat.  That was then brushed over with brown weathering powder and dark green was added at the lower edge.

A flight of stone steps was built using scrap offcuts of the card and more ashlar print. These provide access to the stepping stones.

The land on the “railway” bank is built up using two sheets of foamboard on top of each other and will be developed into a patch of greenery. This now provides the illusion that the railway is slightly higher than the river. Which it isn’t.

The waterfowl arrive plain white. Today some have been repainted as brown ducks with others black to represent moorhens (red brow) and coots (white brow)

And ……. she’s back!!! :D:dancer::tender:

Senara, the mermaid from Penhayle Bay, now lives at Waddlemarsh.

So it’s Waddle-marsh because of the ducks…? It’s nice to see the little touches coming from Penhayle Bay. Looking forward to the next one.

Or the ducks simply waddle in the marsh thereby giving it its name. ;)

There will be a few more pieces salvaged ftom Penhayle Bay in addition to some of the rolling stock.

I thought it was the River Waddle?

A little more progress. Access between the road bridge and station will be via a flight of steps.  Part-complete in this view these are built from offcuts of card and foamboard with spare brick-print paper from the Scalescenes download stuck on. The steps themselves will be formed from spare pieces not used for the concrete footbridge at the other end.

And a gratuitous shot of some wagons under the loading gantry

The post-and-wire fence is in. It still requires a bit of weathering and there’s more greenery to go down. A young lad waits to get a view of the railway action.  That action included a newly-purchased trio of wagons from our friends in Camborne which have been loaded with Woodland Scenics “Medium Talus”. And a goodly helping of PVA!

A quiet weekend has allowed some modifications and progress to the street-to-station steps.

An intermediate landing has been fitted, upon which a lady in blue is standing, to break the long flight which in turn necessitated changes to the brick abutments to incorporate a horizontal area

With that done cap stones have been fitted where needed.

The steps themselves require painting then final detailing and fitting will see this piece become integral with the road bridge.

After a long wait the final piece of backscene is finally going in. This is a test-fit. The idea is that it curves slightly behind the bridge to give depth rather than being a straight line stuck to it.

You may know those base units supplied with Peco PL-11 surface point motors. They aren’t always needed and might be consigned to the recycling bin.

But slice the ends off and you have handy little cable troughs ready-made with four-pin fixing which can be used to manage or conceal surface wiring where needed.

Cut off the ends to give a through-run for your wires

Sorry it’s sideways but it shows that wiring is visible through the backscene

And now covered over. If the board joint here hadn’t resulted in a gap the cover would butt up against the motor. As it is there is nowhere for two pins to purchase so it’s slightly offset. I can now add some ground cover to this area.

A Merry Christmas season from Waddlemarsh

I have been doing a few small bits and pieces in between other seasonal essentials. Two sets of platform steps have been created from a Ratio post-and-rail kit and offcuts of steps from the concrete footbridge kit.

These will provide access from footbridge and road bridge to the up platform.

0.7mm holes were bored out of the step sections to locate the posts which are pre-bored to accept the supplied wire. They are not designed to be used at this angle so a measure of gentle persuasion has been used to create handrails for the steps.

And for today’s entertainment a tarmac path has been added between road bridge and platform steps alongside the concrete wall. Some weeds have been “planted” along the boundary between path and wall.

Also shown is the first platform lamp complete with its SR “target” sign.

One hopeful chap seems to have missed his train.
