RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted July 16, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 16, 2018 (edited) I bought this last year and it just joined the pile I found it while sorting the box out and thought it'd make a nice quicky project. http://www.hglw.co.uk The only tools needed are a craft knife, sanding block, pva glue (it goes off really fast at the moment!) and some pegs! One evenings work Then it was priming and painting the chassis on the second day, leaving the primer to dry most of the time The third evening was assembling the body with various bits to spread the load. Currently priming and sanding the body which is going to take another day as now I have to work Edited July 16, 2018 by PaulRhB
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted July 17, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 17, 2018 While the body dries I've made up a cradle to hold the batteries and switch as I don't want wiring between the body and chassis as the original design. A few scraps of plasticard and pipes so there's something interesting behind the grille.

RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted July 19, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 19, 2018 And this is 'Dinton' ready for action. I'm finding the 4 wheel belt drive rather tight and really slows it down so hoping that will improve with running in. I think I would go for a Delrin chain in future.
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted July 21, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 21, 2018 Thanks, just needs some subtle MOD weathering in the corners
Owd Bob
Superb Paul You can't beat those kits for the price and ease of assembly at all, i got just the chassis kit a few years back and stuck two motors in it! It still works a treat. Looking forward to the weathering. Edited July 21, 2018 by Owd Bob
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted July 21, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 21, 2018 And two basic HGLW flats, just need loads
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted July 24, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 24, 2018 (edited) Well I've been tinkering the 4wd chassis just wasn't quite working because it was very slow from the resistance of the drive band. Fortunately I'd only tagged the axle boxes on with spots of glue so I was able to prise them off. It also sparked the idea to have alternate gauges as I have a couple of local lines of 32mm gauge and a load of tinplate O track I can set up on the floor. A base plate was cut to fix two of the Tamiya 70189 gearboxes on and it's just screwed in with a connector to the electrics inside. Garden Rly's by -salisburyASC- the flats were also regauged in the same way with axle units that screw into the wood so they can be swapped if I want. RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted July 25, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 25, 2018 (edited) I got mine direct from Japan via eBay and ordered them separately for £7-8 each, (incl post), so they were under the threshold for tax. The wheels are coarse tinplate ones from Darstaed which came from the nice chap at Raylo models. It's gone from slipping with one axle driven or crawling with both to loads of power Edited July 25, 2018 by PaulRhB
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted July 26, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 26, 2018 I added end stops to the flatbed and painted up a couple of crates. I added the lettering using home made stencils cut from laminating sheet scraps.
