Beresford Junction
Hi Ian Great work! Very brave to have the helix hidden behind the cover. I was always worried about things crashing and falling off - not that they ever did of course.... Are you going all Swiss with the cellotex mountains on top? RMweb Premium Popular Post Temeraire Posted May 7, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 7, 2020 Afternoon all Work has been progressing in the shed the last couple of weeks with the newly laid tracks cut at the board joints so the station side boards could be upended to fit point motors and wiring. This was completed yesterday and after some fettling of track joints a couple of trains set off to test! They were left circulating for about half an hour with no mishaps whilst I was checking point throws etc. Just awaiting the arrival of a couple of point decoders and same will be done to the right hand side boards that as yet have no point motors or wiring in the stabling point. After that scenics can begin, getting there! 23

RMweb Premium Popular Post Temeraire Posted May 25, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 25, 2020 Afternoon all Sat in the sun after lunch and thought I'd post an update as it's been a couple of weeks. As reported previously all the track is now laid, apart from three sidings which will be done once wiring and rail spraying is complete. This weekend the baseboards have been lifted to allow wiring and point motor fitting to be finished, as none of the stabling point is wired as yet and there are no point motors on that side of the shed. Bit of a mess at the moment! West end of stabling point baseboard with all point motors and wires in place just awaiting the arrival of the point decoder for finishing. Other half work in progress. Before everything was turned upside down I recorded a video of 'Temeraire' taking a train from the top, down to the FY and back up again before taking the junction. It then completes a couple of circuits on top and then crosses back over to run down to the FY. Hopefully this makes a bit more sense of all that woodwork! Enjoy the sunshine! 20

Hi Its the foam that goes under wooden flooring about 3-5mm thick. The blue stuff came in a big roll from B&Q when I bought it.
retroman
Just spent half an hour reading right through this thread. Congratulations Ian, the Helix and associated woodwork is a work of art. This layout is already a delight, well worth all the hundreds (?thousands!!) of hours it has already taken.
RMweb Premium Temeraire Posted May 29, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 29, 2020 Thanks for the kind words Dave, things have progressed steadily during lockdown and I'll hopefully have the wiring complete this weekend ready for the track to be sprayed outside in the garden, before putting it all back together 'permanently' in the shed. Then a period of 'testing' will be had once the Z21 system is all programmed up with the routes etc before scenery begins. That offer of a visit from several years back is still open if you're up this way!

RMweb Premium Temeraire Posted June 11, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 11, 2020 (edited) Evening all Another two weeks passes by and time for another newsflash. The DCC Concepts decoders arrived and were fitted to the top baseboards that had been prepared with wiring. Also the 'track colour' paint was picked up from RhysB and this was the first board treated to colour. Three boards done in an afternoon. The blue wasteland has disappeared! Another outstanding job completed was the making and fitting of locating locks to the drop in doorway bridges. This afternoon all the baseboard spraying was finished off with this part of the fixed corner board the last. State of play when I closed up for dinner tonight, bit of a mess! So where are we? With all the track spraying complete the baseboards are ready for final 'permanent' fitting followed by final track alignment before the scenery phase (at last). However, next on the agenda before that is fitting of the Z21 controller and testing out the programming of all the FY pointwork. Whilst sat watching TV over a couple of evenings a basic plan was uploaded to an iPad and the symbols placed, numbered and written into routes for 'easy' control of trains through the FY! Once the Z21 is in place we shall see how successful that is! Once this is tested and reliable the FY can be buried by the upper level.
