Popular Post eastwestdivide
Back in the urban landscape earlier this morning, a 150 on a Leeds-Sheffield stopper passes the Rotherham Parkgate tram-train terminus, a dog walker, and canal boat Monty, with the Aldwarke steelworks in the background. Don't see too much traffic on that bit of canal, so a bonus to get one with a passing train: 21

Popular Post Trev52A
One from my 'oldies' file - seen from the top of the (in)famous Gateshead multi-storey carpark, a two-coach DMU calls at Gateshead (East) station with a train from Newcastle to South Shields in 1976. The train had just crossed the High Level Bridge (centre left) which still had three tracks on it at this time. A second DMU can be seen to the right of Newcastle Keep. Thanks, Northmoor. Here's another from the same era and area: an 8-car formation crossing the Ouseburn Viaduct near Heaton, Newcastle in June 1976, with preparatory work for the construction of the new Metro Viaduct proceeding in the foreground. I can't remember if this was a normal strength train on the coastal loop at busy times or if it was some sort of special working. Trevor

Looking at the track that disappears out-of-shot in the bottom left-hand corner is what I presume is a rail expansion joint. Don't think I've seen one like this before. Presumably the 'normal' traffic flow on this line would be "right to left" as looking at the photo. There appears to be something (3 of) clamped/bolted to the rails/expansion switches - anyone know what these are?

I didn't take an upright shot especially to include it, that's for sure. (Not sure why I did, after all these years!) The track in question is for trains to Sunderland (left to right) with the nearer one for the opposite direction. Trevor

RMweb Gold 4630 Posted October 1, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 1, 2021 (edited) With Autumn colours beginning to show in the trees, a TransPennine Express (TPE) class 185 heads east along the Calder Valley line towards Brighouse on 1st October 2021. Todays working is one of the regular 'class 5' workings along the Calder Valley that have been running for several weeks between Manchester Victoria and Leeds/York, I presume for driver training/route refresher purposes. There are no day time passenger services for TPE along the Calder Valley, however the line is used for diversions due to engineering work or service disruptions along the booked route via Huddersfield. RMweb Premium Northmoor Posted October 3, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 3, 2021 Two lovely shots there @Solo; a pity you didn't get the train's reflection in the frame too but a lovely "mirror" nevertheless. The Fens shot is exactly how trains should be photographed in that area; there's no elevation there so proportionally more sky than landscape. Include a local geographic feature and lots of sky! 1
