Thanks Phil. I'm leaning more to B/W photos nowadays.

Oh look, here's a green one arriving from Worcester...

Now that’s a stylish cool b&w photo. The GWR green livery really does work well this way.

With the main line between Huddersfield and Leeds closed for engineering works on 7th November 2021, TransPennine Express (TPE) services from Manchester and Liverpool were terminating and restarting at Huddersfield.

Platform and pathing constraints at Huddersfield meant that many terminating services then ran ECS to Bradley Junction to reverse on the single track line that leads to Bradley Wood Junction and the Calder Valley line, before then running back to Huddersfield to form a westbound service.

A TPE class 185, lost in the tree lined corridor at Bradley Junction, heads back towards Huddersfield after reversal with 5K13...

These arrangements also meant class 802/2, Nova 1 sets, put in an appearance as 5T18, 10.26 Huddersfield to Huddersfield (10.41), takes the single line at Bradley Junction...

I remember how in the mid-1980s, these were some of the so-called "Five Curves" across West Yorkshire, all proposed for closure by BR.  Fortunately only the Wortley curve outside Leeds actually closed (and TBH the travelling public have managed without it OK); there would now be considerable operational constraints on these movements otherwise.  There also wouldn't be a Halifax to Huddersfield train service, or a Great Central service to Halifax either.

Fortunately, the former West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (WYPTE) was active in promoting rail and mobilising local political opinion in the late 90s/early 2000s to get closed stations re-opened, thereby helping to ensure the survival of some lines.

The re-opening of Brighouse in May 2000 on what, since 1970, had been a freight only line between Heaton Lodge Junction and Milner Royd Junction, is a case in point.

If the WYPTE had been less effective then the direct (or reasonably direct!) services available now between some pretty large northern conurbations would be non-existent.

Even now, in my view, more could be done if the will (and funding of course) was there.

Pre-pandemic, the Huddersfield-Bradford Interchange via Halifax service probably could, IMHO, generate enough passengers and revenue to justify a half-hourly service through the main hours of the day.  But, ignoring the existing known capacity and infrastructure constraints on that part of the network, I appreciate it would probably never produce a large enough positive return to justify the investment, unfortunately.

A quick phone snap I took this morning of a couple of Turbos approaching Bathampton Jct, taken whilst walking along the canal towpath. A look on Realtime trains tells me this was the 1142 Salisbury - Cardiff.

Sunset over Ramsbottom Station - A former Northern Rail class 144 Pacer and a class 104 stand side-by- side on 13th November 2021 towards the end of day 1 of the East Lancashire Railway's DMU weekend.

Another subject from the East Lancashire Railway's DMU weekend taken on 13th November 2021, this time a Class 105 'Cravens' unit.

It's a very nicely presented unit externally.  Internally, I don't know if the seat moquette fitted is to the original design as I only remember these units in all blue livery with blue moquette operating out of London Kings Cross before completion of the suburban electrification in 1976, but to my eyes it certainly looks the part and really evokes the look and feel these units would have had in the early 1960s.

Departing from Rawtenstall with the 10.15 service to Bury Bolton Street and on to Heywood (not Scarborough*)...

* There was some creative use of the destination blinds on the day, including a class 144 pacer heading to St Pancras!

In pleasantly warm Autumn sunshine on 13th November 2021, a former Northern Trains pacer leaves Ramsbottom and heads towards Bury.

Quite timely in view of todays publication of the Integrated Rail Plan for the North and Midlands, here is  the urban landscape that is Bradford Interchange.

Taken on 17th November 2021 featuring from left to right a Grand Central class 180 waiting to depart with a service to London Kings Cross, a Northern Trains (NT) class 150 that was shuttling between there and Huddersfield and a NT class 195 arriving with a service from Chester, which will reverse in platform 3 before heading to Leeds.

Approaching Mill Lane Junction, the Grand Central service departs up the 1:50 heading in the direction of Halifax.

A pair of NT class 195s pass adjacent to the former Mill Lane Junction signal box.

Not so much in the landscape, but the mist coming off the basin makes a nice shot.

A Northern 158 races past with a service for Carlisle, seen in the fog at Utley, near Keighley, West Yorkshire.  The new security fencing that has recently appeared (and which has somewhat restricted angles at my usual photography locations) can be seen.  This was one of the few spots on this line locally with a low enough wall to photograph over, at this ex-level crossing.

A Class 8xx IET forming the 16:02 from Oxford slowing down for the Charlbury stop, seen across the flood plain of the river Evenlode.  Those of a geographical bent may note the oxbow lake in the cut off meander in the foreground.
