DMU Photography - Away from the Three-Quarter View

Recommended Posts

Having posted the shots of the Railbus on the KWVR last weekend, I was reminded of these shots that I took last year...

Already a historical image- the units gone either to preservation or the cutters.  One of the odder chapters in the KWVR's existence.

I'd been really wanting to go and photograph these units, but I lived that little bit too far away to justify a jaunt out within the '1 hours exercise' rule in force at the time.  Then, not long before the units were removed, I ended up having to walk home from hospital at 6am so took the opportunity to get some pictures in the sunrise.

A bit later in the year, and the units were being removed from the Worth Valley (barring the set which had been transferred to the line for preservation).  Something of a chance shot this- I'd been working in the kitchen and heard the distant tooting of an air-horn, so me and Elder Child quickly went for our daily walk :)

There's something about these last two shots; the rebuilt, modern-looking Bridge 11, the new houses, and the vaguely-modern units... perhaps if the Worth Valley had never been closed, and had remained a branch line operated by BR, then Northern, this is the sort of thing we'd have been seeing here the last ten years.

With open access operator Grand Central set to reintroduce its services from 27th March, this week there are a couple of daily diagrams for 'shake down' runs to make sure all is well.

Approaching and passing through Brighouse on 24th March a class 180 heads for Bradford Interchange with 5A63, 09.35 from Crofton Depot.  The set is then forming 5Z63 to London Kings Cross and scheduled 5Z73 return to Bradford Interchange.

With having done the house move from North Norfolk to Cumbria. Oh boy is the landscape going to change.

Here we see 156480 on Wednesday 17th March 2021 with a service bound for Newcastle, having raced through the site of How Mill station.

BEN_BUCKI_KWVR_Damems_Railbus_Staff-Train_01.04.21 (8).JPG

The KWVR have had a lot of their toys out of their boxes this week for staff training prior to re-opening, amongst which has been a regular diagram of Railbus shuttles between Keighley and Damems.  Which is handy for our daily exercise, seeing all this stuff trundling past the last couple of days.  Weather wasn't great on Thursday, bit better yesterday, so we managed a few pics.  Just nice to see and hear trains running again!

A couple from the Bedford-Bletchley branch, whilst semaphores still ruled.

.....and crosses the level crossing on its way to Bedford. August 2004.

Later the same evening, 150130 is seen entering Woburn Sands, returning to Bletchley.

Next off to Cornwall, here's a150/2 crossing the Royal Albert Bridge, on its way to Plymouth.

A little further along the line, another 150/2 crosses Forder Lake, between Saltash & St Germans. The line here was moved inland to its present course early in the 1900's. It used to cross the lake roughly where I stood to take this photo, on one of Brunel's timber viaducts.

And before Woburn Sands became a Costa Coffee

Love that murky Saltash picture. Judging by the trees, it is a typical early summer day?

Yes, late May, in between rain storms!

Another couple from Cornwall. Arriva Wales & West liveried 150267 rounds the headland overlooking Porthminster beach, & runs into St Ives station. At the time, it was on loan to First GW. 17.04.2009.
