Thank you for that information. As it is a gangwayed unit, perhaps it is OK to run like that if it is paired with a unit that does have a toilet? Possibly doesn't run as a 2-car unit, only as part of a longer unit. For a long time the individual cars were placed inside 2-car 150/1 units to make 3-car units.

Quite possibly, I'm not aware of the specifics of Northern's concession but I know that for GWR the 143s can still run so long as they are attached to a compliant unit (158 or 150). There is no gangway connection with that so persons with reduced mobility need to be boarded into the compliant unit. The 143 is meant to always be on a specific end of the formation too.

The penultimate picture above, with the unit 150 209 is interesting.

This was one of two early casualties, 150 212 being the other, that each lost 1 of 2 cars due to collision damage (different incidents). They both lost the same type of car, 522nn, so the two individual cars couldn't be put together as a unit as there would be no toilet.

So I'm curious to know what it has been paired with, as it appears to be a 2-car unit going by the livery. Or have sets been renumbered in the last 30 years so that 150 209 is not the same as the 150 209 that I am referring to?

57212 and 57209 were used as centre vehicles in the FGW 150/9s. When 150125 and 126 were sent away they were reformed as two car units and 150209 made up as a two car, which from digging on Flickr appears to have two toiletless vehicles

A seasonal pic of a 121 and DMS, standard formation for the branch, taken from the Windsor relief road. I have no date for this - not even sure if I took the picture. My brother might have taken it. (CJL)

Oooh!  That's a photo I've meant to get up early to take for years.  In the early winter mornings the mist across the valley, with the sun rising behind the castle, is gorgeous.

It's nearly a year since i started to visit Crows Nest junc' at Hindley Nr. Wigan, and when i actually started to get out and take note of the railways once again, i've seen most of the weather conditions & the changing seasons here and these from yesterday 23-2-20. make the landscape look pretty brown & really dull.

The coach surrounded by hi-vis appears to be off the road!

It really do's look like that but from memory it was still moving but very slowly past what looked like at the time a group of young trainees.;)

Good afternoon, Trev52A. The unit is two three car sets, with a class 119 Gloucester Cross Country unit leading, followed by a class 101 Metro Cammell set following. I hope that is of help.

Best regards,

Rob.

Thank you Rob.

Do you think that would that have come from the Newquay branch, possibly?

Kind regards

Early morning sunshine tempted me out with the camera, so a few piccies from this morning (17th Feb).

The 8:05 to Oxford sat in Charlbury station, already 7 mins late:

Waiting for the 8:05 from Oxford to clear the single line section, which it eventually did at about 8:13, finally arriving some 10min late:

After which the 8:05 finally set off, 12mins late:

The 8:05 is the all stations stopper, the only one of the day to call at the halts of Shipton, Ascott, Combe and Finstock, which is why it is only 2 carriages.

Found some more unit shots whilst hunting through my archives, so as the rain lashes the windows outside, here's some summer seaside pics from West Wales.

Bloody ERTMS... some of the most beautiful scenery on the Cambrian Coast, with some of the blandest DMU's on the network :)  I miss the days of the steam specials, and I never seem to be visiting when the yellow 37's trundle up from Shrewsbury...

Criccieth, 2015.  I gather this bit is buried under shingle at the moment.

Barmouth, last April.  Weird lighting on the day, but I liked how it came out.  The bridge didn't half wobble as the train rolled past.

Criccieth again, evening of the same day; the height of excitement on the Cambrian Coast these days, spotting a slightly unusual livery amongst the Arriva colour scheme.  Probably swapped around this year, I'll be excited to see Arriva amongst all the bland TFW white/black/red...

And last summer at Harlech...

...an angle I always wanted to try.  Would have loved a shot off the battlements, but it was extremely windy up there and it wasn't safe with the foster kids hanging desperately onto the railings.  Hopefully on one of our regular visits this year I can get the holy trio of Yellow 37, sun, and blue sky...

Superb pics' Ben, an area i love myself, i can't get to the places you have been able to get to anymore but years ago i managed to take a few from Barmouth Harbour, i only found these pics' last eve' whilst going through a load of photo cd's i'm transferring over, they are possibly 10 years old or there abouts.  I only once saw a yellow 37 parked up at the Pwllheli end of and near Porthmadoc station, i just could'nt get anywhere near it.:D

Thanks for the kind comment- I've also only once seen a Yellow Peril on the line, it was when the line was shut for ages a few years ago after storm damage, and I chanced on one unexpectedly parked-up at Porthmadog Station after it had made a test run.

Found some more pics... a visit to Embsay last year, just before the summer, to see the very impressive NER unit...
