RMweb Gold TravisM Posted August 8, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 8, 2018 I was offered a Bachmann LMS inspection saloon in EWS livery yesterday, in very good condition and at a very reasonable price. I was wondering if it’s still running on the network or has it been withdrawn and sold off? All I can find about current inspection saloons is the ex Hastings vehicle “Caroline”. Paul.Uni
If it is the one I'm thinking of, it is owned by TfL as part of their Heritage Fleet. Last I heard it was at Eastleigh having work carried out on it.
Simon Bendall
DM45029 was stored at Motherwell for a large chunk of the 2000s, sold to London Underground in 2010 and moved to Eastleigh Works. Currently in the 8th year of a very slow refurbishment.
RMweb Gold TravisM Posted August 8, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 8, 2018 Are there any other similar saloons in service? I saw a picture of Colas Class 47 and seemed to hauling a single saloon which seemed to be in LMS maroon but it’s hard to tell as the photographer taking the picture concentrated on the loco. Simon Bendall
That's 6320, owned by the Princess Royal Class Locomotive Trust and based at Swanwick Junction. Comes out very occasionally, usually when GBRf requires a saloon. Its a rebuild rather than purpose built so has differences to the Bachmann model www.flickr.com/photos/rob50037/12156554205 This is the only one of LMS design left on the main line now, the other stragglers disappeared in the early 2000s when propelling was banned. Ressaldar
EWS had four Inspection Saloons, DM45020 and DM45029, both to ex LMS Diag D2046 design built in the 1940s, DM45020 was fitted with B4/B5 bogies and alterations to the bodywork. DB999504 built to BR Diag 1/550 a BR version of the ex LMS design in the early 1960s and DB999509 a totally BR design to Diag 1/552.When in EWS ownership they were fitted with heater vents in the sides and did not have an ETH equipment - as I think the Backmann model has, except DB999504 Here are two that I have built in O Gauge, DM45029 and DB999504 Mike Edited August 8, 2018 by Ressaldar
rob D2
EWS got rid of them quite early on and instead transitioned to the EWS executive train
