nhdesigns
I suppose this is something a lot of us have probably discussed, interiors for buildings. I am currently working on a set of arches from scalescenes, for a diorama and have two shops and two workshops under one set of arches. One shop is an appliance shop with the usual washers and ovens on display in the window with a satellite dish on display and on the front whilst the other is a standard news agent. I've got the outside elements done for them and have the interior walls made for them. Because the workshops and shops are open, I've not got anything in them. Anyone know what would be good for interiors for workshops? Or what would be good for them? I know garages are one thing, but personally I'm looking for something different than this. Any advice or ideas would be much appreciated.
PJ-101
I think interiors are becoming more of an issue as led interior lighting is becoming more prevalent. Scalescenes (https://scalescenes.com/scratchbuilders-yard/) do an interior detailing kit which includes domestic appliances which might be useful, also worth checking Model Railway Scenery (http://www.modelrailwayscenery.com/) for their detailing packs, Shapeways (https://www.shapeways.com/shops/dcyale) sell 3d printed items and this guy sells some interesting laser cut workshop tools (https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/naaron88), I'm sure there are other options, but these are the ones that come to mind. Hmm yeah I see where you're coming from. Especially now we lost maplin, as I use to get LED strips there for my buildings. I got the scalescenes interior packs so I might use some bits and pieces of them. I'll take a look at shapeways and the other as well. I know that there are things like Noch and Prieser who do good things for interiors, even though they are expensive.
RMweb Premium HillsideDepot Posted August 16, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 16, 2018 Ideas for the workshop units could come from the availability of suitable vehicles for the traders to use. A builder might use an arch as a store, with a suitable pick-up outside. A carpenter or plumber, would probably have a van, but timber might arrive on a flatbed truck, and the plumber's van would likely have a pipe tube on the roof. Thinking through the types of vehicles Oxford Diecast make, not a workshop, but an ice cream vendor's depot? Or, albeit partly in the garage line, a taxi workshop in one bay and the office/ waiting room in the adjacent arch? Or perhaps an Arthur Daley style "lock-up" with Jag and battered Transit outside, and probably an unmarked Police car keeping watch from a strategic distance! Edwardian
How about http://severnmodels.com/epages/eshop1179816.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/eshop1179816/Products/D.6 ? Although brass, I believe they are designed to be constructed without need of soldering.
HonestTom
What era are you going for? I was wandering past Vauxhall the other day, and the arches there include a couple of bars, a restaurant and a sauna. In steam days, these arches housed a dairy, of all the unlikely industries.
RMweb Gold ianLMS Posted September 6, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 6, 2018 I have used the Severn Models kits and can definately vouch for them. Extremely high quality etchings and can be assembles using super-glue, epoxy or soldering. I have also seen some modellers cut out images from magazines to use as shop interiors. Search on google will also come up with several interior pictures of the stores you are looking for, and they can be easily mounted on card, or wrapped around to give a more 3-D effect. here is a link to some interiors modelled; http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/100955-interiors-for-buildings-in-ooho-scale/page-2?hl=+interior%20+furniture I have also seen someone cut out pics of furniture in different scales and mount them in such a way as they looked 3-D and gave a perception of depth. I cant find the post at the moment though.

I was wandering past Vauxhall the other day, and the arches there include a couple of bars, a restaurant and a sauna. In steam days, these arches housed a dairy, of all the unlikely industries. I'm mainly working in the diesel era of the late '80s and on from there. So I'm pretty much open to what would be ideal. I've started looking at things like the faller and noch building interiors like the machinery sets for metal and wood working. I might have something like that in one arch. Already got a small newsagents and appliances shop made up so that's those taken care of. Just need to have a light in the newsagents.
