RMweb Gold Donw Posted May 5, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 5, 2020 Great news about the move Andy. You know you are moving forward now. I expect Dee especially will be pleased to be near family. I agree with Ray about the Chipboard flooring most Builders merchants stock 8x2 T&G chipboard flooring 18 or 22mm. Handy for me as if would go easily in the motorhome when I needed to replace floorboards. Much easier than the 8x4 sheets. I used the water resistant stuff in the en suite. You may find the restrictions ease a little soon and family can come round as long as you avoid being too close. A lot depends on the type of material for the wall. If it is thermalite blocks it would be easy. I have a special saw for cutting them but an old saw will do but will be useless for anything else afterwards. If hard blocks or brick perhaps one of your family could cut part way through from the garage side using a stonecutter. They wouldn't need to come inside. It would make going through the rest easier. I would discuss it with them first once you have drilled a test hole to see what the wall is. The other option is to drill holes closely spaced all the way down using an sds drill (you don't need to buy a expensive one as you wont be doing loads more. When I cut a doorway through I just remove enough to create a slot to take the lintel Fix that in place before removing the rest of the opening. Unless there is something very heavy resting on that wall I have got away without using acro-jacks bit different if it was double doors or wider. I had to use three jacks and brightboys to put in a wide window in one place. If you can do any knocking out from inside the house you will not case the plaster to lift. I got a special plastic sheet with a zip up the middle to fix across the hall to keep the dust out of the bedrooms last time I removed a couple of walls inside. The builders mechant stocked it. Any doors that where to wrong side of the sheet where taped around the seems and not opended till the job was done. Take it very steady and no rushing the job mate. Regarding the chipboard floor, have you considered using attic flooring, they're smaller sheets, lighter, more manoeuvrable and interlock together (T&G). Just a thought. Ray. Thanks Ray, a great idea, and well worth looking into, Cheers.

Looks very convincing. Paul R Thanks Paul, not really, my mate George T from on here made the Pub, and I painted the Road going around it onto the backscene. Regards Don Thanks Don, I know the inner walls are Blue Breeze Block from work my Dad and I did on his Bungalow, and work Dee and I did on our previous Bungalow, both on the same estate, Plus I saw them being built from the footings up. There is also a cavity between the Breeze Block and the Red Brick on the Garage inside wall from memory, but I will have to check that out next week. I know when Dee and I had our conservatory done in the other Bungalow down there that the dust went into every room from the Breeze Block. I do like the idea of the T&G Flooring, that should be a lot easier. Cheers 1

Andrew P
So today I'm going to miss Trecarne and Trewithen in the Blast from the Past, although both got to the running stage, neither had any real Scenics, but I will show just one picture from each before moving on to Pen Y Bont in O Gauge. Trecarne, with how I visualised the Scenery. Trewithen Pen Y Bont. Edited May 6, 2020 by Andrew P

Andrew P
Here's another pic of testing the new Yard, but after the move, the siding to the left will go around to the left to form the through line to the new Fiddle Yard hopefully, leaving room to form a Road where the VAA's are parked up. RMweb Premium southern42 Posted May 6, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 6, 2020 Hi Andy. I am enjoying your blast from the past. I certainly enjoyed the layouts we were fortunate enough to see, so this is a bit of a treat. Hope the move goes well and you are able to settle down happily in Amp Sher. I guess we have a good excuse to come down to the Mid Hants again - and find you! Guess it will have to wait till next year or so, though. I am already thinking of the return to service of Didcot's 2-4-0T 1466, my reason for GWRd, so I am thinking Amp Sher is not too far away... _________ Best wishes to you both Polly

Have you laid any Track yet on GWR'd? Keep well and safe.

Hi Andy, at the moment, I am detailing a couple of locos, well, three TBH so, I think I should give them at least a platform for them to run into to start with! What do you reckon? Answers on the back of train ticket! Hope it is not too long before you are up and running your layout, again. Be good. Andrew P
Well with less than a week to go now before I lose my Internettie thingie, we are getting towards the end of my previous Layouts in the Blast from the Past. Today I show Kingsmill (Midland Road) TMD. Another small compact Layout, on just one board and easily transportable to Shows. It was sold to a chap in Essex who also later bought my Argyle St Layout. Also showing the Fully Folding Fiddle Yard to allow it to go into the Car easily. Edited May 8, 2020 by Andrew P
