Good afternoon Tom

What a inspiration CWM Prysor has been to me, enough of a thought provoking layout that I am hoping to model Bala Junction in the 1950's with license to drop back to the 1930's.

Thank you as I have been struggling to find somewhere with enough operational content but of an unusual nature (Bala Junction had no road access it was purely an interchange).

Regards

That is very kind of you Peter
I will get Cwm Prysor finished, I just find my motivation is elsewhere these days!

I've not forgotten about it, I assure you.

Brilliant Tom really enjoyed your modelling and miscellaneous over on Skarloey.

Including the live chats.

This was always a fav. Of mine can’t wait to see more.

 Cheers

Ade

Tom I echo everyone's post above as well. Your layout is one of those goto threads as it just shows that simplicity can be very effective with all the research that you have done. The layout builds a full picture of the line yet in essence it is a one point layout. Looking forward to the new adventures of Cwm prysor and to the planned expansion.

Keep up the great work

Thank you for such a lovely welcome back to this little piece of Merionethshire!

This afternoon I've got the fiddle yards back in order ready to be able to operate the layout again.

Here is 5810 is seen beyond Cwm Prysor with the 6.45am off Bala.

What a beautifully-natural shot.

One of the finest I've seen.

That’s very kind of you to say, but in fairness, I learnt it all from you.

Not sure about that, Tom,

What's the saying? 'I taught you everything I know, but not all you know'.

Today I've been working on distressing the station shelter. I'd painted it initially a dark brown like the sleepers, however looking at photographs from the late 1950s, it seems to have lost most of it's paint due to its bleak location.

Great eye for detail Tom that’s brilliant.

Cwm Prysor halt, 1958.  No human sound, just the wind whipping the hissing grass as it curls around the southern flank of Arenig Fawr.  Sheep bleat, a curlew calls from a boggy part of the mountainside, and the decrepit snow fence creaks in protest.  You can't see the top of Arenig, which means it's raining; seeing it means it's about to rain...  The wind blasted shelter roof rattles a little in a gust, and you think you might have heard a loco whistle but it's so quickly cut off by the gust you're not sure if it isn't wishful thinking.  Train's due in a few minutes, though, and a laboured chuffing makes a brief appearance in the soundscape as the pannier labours up the bank from Bala, which feels as world away from the desolation here.

Sure enough, here's a definite whistle and the chuffing stops as the train clears the top and coasts the last hundred yards before braking at the lonely platform.  A few seconds of activity, and the train departs towards Trawsfynydd, and the scene is left to the eternal wind, curlews, sheep, and creaks..

That's how good this layout and these photos are.
