If you would consider a new membership of H.M.R.S. a substitute, I am happy to oblige and support their and your good works. So much for winding down my membership of organisations prior to retirement! Thanks again; Neil. I have paid for and downloaded a few wagon and coach photos from Paul's site to my computer. I have far too many prints so don't want to add any - so downloading is always my first choice. Similar with the HMRS website, you get a nice discount too as a member. Thanks for this; still thinking 'inside the box' I never consider the idea of keeping a down-load as just that! Reduced-H.M.R.S. sub. just purchased. Nowhere on the form to credit it to @hmrspaul , but he may consider it his doing, en homage. Another web-site to add to my 'footer'. 4
RMweb Gold C126 Posted October 18, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 18, 2023 Hoping to prompt some early purchases at the cost of pulling this off-topic, may I just say Mr Larkin's v.1 of Speedlink wagons is now available: https://www.crecy.co.uk/speedlink-volume-1 Sorry if not of interest. My Christmas present sorted!
RMweb Gold Downendian Posted October 18, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 18, 2023 (edited) I’ve just received this book (volume 5), and spent a good hour perusing it. Fantastic level of detail, and although some of the material is already in David’s previous books, this a hugely useful resource for those modelling the early BR period as much more detail in included. I count myself in that bracket (1970s) and it’s quite remarkable how many ex-big four vehicles lasted until the 70s and 80s. I just wish it were available before I embarked on building my clayliner and ballast wagon fleet- there are superb photos useful for modelling purposes which I would have shamelessly copied. I’m sure I’ll get round to purchasing all of this series, I already own volume 2. Neil Edited October 18, 2023 by Downendian

nigel newling
I was advised by a bookseller at the Folkstone show that Mr Larkin was not intending to compile the promised 6th volume, preferring to move his attention to the Speedlink series. I do hope this is not true. This set of books provide my go-to reference for wagon appearance in my preferred era of just post war. Does anyone on here know any better? F.W.I.W., he told me at D.E.M.U. Sutton Coldfield he was now working on the four Speedlink vols., not mentioning any of his previous series (so I assumed completed). I would suggest sending him an e-mail, but mine awaits a reply, so I hope he is not indisposed.
Cwmtwrch
Why not ask the publisher? They should be able to say whether they have the book awaiting publication, or not, and if not, why not.
hmrspaul
David confirmed to the group of us that exchange information on wagons that manuscripts for all three of the outstanding Acquired wagons books and the final three of the Speedlink series are with Crecy. Some other manuscripts are also near completion. Paul 7 3 6 1
RMweb Premium 65179 Posted March 8 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 8 Volume 6 of this series is now being advertised on the Crecy site: https://www.crecy.co.uk/the-acquired-wagons-of-british-railways-volume-6 It is stated as covering an eclectic mix including pre-1923 minerals and some specialist wagons such as roadstone and glass wagons. Really looking forward to this one. Simon 3
Steamport Southport
Ooh another one! Only missing the first volume now and that's out of print. I assume most books published now are just short runs, so if you are after them get them whilst they are available (some at very good bargain prices) and before those prices rocket.
