Here’s a project I’ve been working on to build a diorama; lettering for a transit shed door and the brickwork over the door.

Similar processes for both - find a modern font that’s close and print to scale to use as a guide. Form the main outlines using a white pen, changing the font here and there to follow the prototype. Touch up the edges and there you go!

Here’s another completed commission - a 7mm LNWR Coal Hole. Part of a much larger commission. Nothing bought in save the ladder from Wizard. Everything else completely scratch built to museum standard. Thanks to @Stephenwolsten for invaluable prototype information to complement my now dog-eared LNW Portrayed by Jack Nelson.

I've just had some custom-made windows for a goods shed and some strips of roof tiles from Richard and they are excellent, well worth the cost.

Dave

Thanks Dave for the endorsement. I hope the cost was within your budget...?!

I have now begun an LNWR north light engine shed to go alongside the coal hole. The basic structure is complete, next to move on to detailing the exterior and interior. I am vague on the colour scheme of the woodwork and ironwork for these - I will have to check Nelson’s book...

Here’s a few pics of a static display diorama for a collector. It’s just over 4’ long. It will now be passed to Neil Podbery for him to carry out the scenic element. Very pleased with the outcome. Quite excited to see what Neil does to bring it to life. 3FD36EAE-A821-43C3-92E0-13019E5C0A61.jpeg.65350b193ffff23d6609f3b9782d74fd.jpeg7BCB4DFD-914D-4B0E-A91E-2A0A30440AA2.jpeg.037f8ec66eb7399b80150eecded9dcd5.jpeg04363957-B0E0-47F9-9B97-6CB81E8C0966.jpeg.06ee01e84dbb260788ffb89859981734.jpeg2AF05870-92BC-416A-A330-82C713B65255.jpeg.1994bc5db8e33445c09d753ae3c8b4d4.jpeg964B6D31-26EF-4184-99D0-C62DEF701102.jpeg.7769726f884f0187430912e5f9894929.jpeg

Thought I’d post a few pics of the beginnings of a 7mm model of Truro station. Here I’ve made the clerestory rooflight with laser cut windows and corbels. More pics to follow, progress is also being made on the walls. The layout of the building has had to be shortened from the original to fit it in, but this is still over 4’ long.

I’ve also made the roof structure with two towers, the middle hole for the clerestory and a smaller rooflight off to one side.

Here it is laid out on a full-size plan that my customer provided, as I have to make the platforms to fit the track work that has already been laid.

A start will be made next week on the canopy. Although I’m having trouble sourcing the cast iron columns. Any ideas?!

Possibly Scalelink on this page

https://www.scalelink.co.uk/acatalog/Scenic___Scale_1_43__O_-p1.html

Alternative - get a drawing and 3D print - that's what Paul Martin of EDM Models did for a customer and now he sells the Gateposts from Barnstaple Station here

Thanks. Also Poppy’s Wooden Things (or something like that!) have some interesting stuff.

Also on the workbench is a GW large corrugated hut. As you can see, I’m taking a slightly unconventional approach to its construction....more photos to follow...!A258698C-ED53-4EE5-A48D-B5972B1F9AD2.jpeg.ecad732cf1acbd7f90c3358676505d0b.jpeg

Might not be that easy to see but the black blob is a hole, painted black which will sit behind the window and will be invisible.

Here's an update on the Truro station build. the main structure is together, roof slates fitted and parts cut for the canopy and brick detail overlays in 0.8mm ply. The platform surface has been made and will await brick front face, kerb stones and flag stone surfaces. Also, windows, doors, lead flashing and fancy iron railings on the towers and rooflight, down pipes and guttering...oh, and painting!

And also a weighbridge office, destined for the same layout as the PW hut. Here it is perched on my knee. Laser cut mdf walls, paper slates and ridge tiles. Waiting for Modelu gutters again. Windows and door are made and will be fitted next.

Went fitting the gutters I shall take the opportunity to straighten up some wonky slates!!

A little bit of progress on the Truro building - here I’ve added, chimney stacks, chimney pots, flashing and etched brass railings. I got these etches from my own artwork.
Meanwhile, I hope you all have a happy and safe Christmas.

Here’s the start of the island platform for Truro. 25mm ply ribs without a section to be left open for the building to drop in.

And also here are the early experiments of 3D printed fence panels....looks promising!

Each panel measures a scale 8’ long x 5’ high, the post has a spigot for planting into the ground, and there is a tab on the other end that engages in a sit in the post of the next panel. They’re available on my website www.monksgate.co.uk and also at www.Intentio.co.uk.

4mm wicker baskets! Not only am I getting used to a smaller scale but the writing is extremely tiny! These were used to transport perishables to and from stately houses and their estates. The name of the house is on the side, the initials of the owner on the top, together with the style of coronet dependant on their title.

Modest progress on Truro, laser cut brick wall overlays and started to stick them on.
