Unfortunately I couldn't convince Dapol to do a 1961 steam era livery - hopefully to come. One of my favourite wagons, and some of my earliest teenage photos.

What is it with Dapol and liveries?

When they do do a popular livery, they manage to get the font wrong.

I'd have had a modest rake of as-built BOGIE BOLSTER Es; ex-works and supposedly on delivery from Ashford.

That said, looking at the production samples, the underframe trussing looks a bit too deep and under-nourished. Nothing that can't be corrected, but why not get it right when cutting the tooling?

Regards,

John Isherwood.

Nice!

The era issue seems to be causing problems again though. Dapol quote 5-7 but surely branding with BEV/YNV places them in era 7 - not 5 or 6. Paul Bartlett's site has pre TOPs branding as E bolster V

Wont stop us getting some - now where are the pre TOPs transfers?

If you ask nicely Phil, I believe John will alter the numbers on the ensuing sheets so that you have a fleet of differing numbers.

I know I'm slightly biased and I haven't Dapols rendition of the D & L bogie in my hands, but based on photographic evidence I still don't think they are quite there yet.

Mike.

I think if I had spent the effort you have on a wagon fleet Mike I would feel exactly the same - even if the proprietary version was  totally faultless!

And can see what you mean about the trussing John

Will see what that is like once weathered

Not something that is offered as normal service - but if the numbers required are specified; (to save me having to look up the number series); not impossible!

Attached is a low res. image of the standard sheet.

Think Mike dropped you in it there John!

Will do some research and come up with numbers but if its too much trouble I can always swap terminal digits myself.....

Hi

Can anyone tell me if any of these wagons ever carried the Railfreight livery?

Thanks

Tim

No; that was reserved for air-braked wagons; there was a project to fit some wagons with air-brakes, and replace the bogies with a two-axle underframe, but only five were done, and given the code name 'Pollock'. Most of the remainder became 'Turbots'.

So what year was the brown livery on these first used?

What? Always, as they were built fitted. These came relatively late to BR. It was grey that BR dropped for a few years in the early/mid 60s.

Initially they were BOGIE BOLSTER E which became BOLSTER E VB when they received the boxed in style of lettering. https://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/brbbe/e3f37b8a9

Speaking to Joel on Saturday advance sales are good and I'm hopeful a steam era version will be produced.

Cheers Paul. I got confused with the mention of steam era version, assuming that they should be grey in the steam era.

I’m happy to renumber and remove TOPS lettering to backdate one of these.
