Looks like you already need a bigger MPD old chap!

stabling for locos is (and will be) available elsewhere so no problemo.. especially as we have agreed where we can have a diesel refuelling/stabling point worked in near the main station.

Your thingy isn’t just very large - it’s huge…

… If you don’t mind me saying.

I think it’s an 0 gauge one.

approx every 12 inches - but avoiding potential point motor locations!

...and making sure they're far enough apart to get your favourite screwdriver between them. Don't ask how I know this.

Go DCC.

I have plugged in my Digitraxx Super Empire whatsit and gave the layout a dcc whirl. Sound fitted locos are very nice but I have far too many locos to fir sound to them all...

Sound isn’t mandatory.

Oi! There's only four 'allowed' in that shed-side road ... not SIX :jester:

(only four isolation sections worked in)

Hi Graham

When I built my various diesel depots I divided my loco storage lines in 4 inch sections. 4 inches being the length of a shunter, 8 inches (2 sections) a Baby Deltic or Sulzer Bo-Bo, 12 inches (3 sections) a Peak, English Electric Type 4 or Deltic. This meant I could place my locos buffer to buffer (tension lock to tension lock) in the sidings, to me a shunter sitting on a 12 inch section with a big gap between it and the locos either side looked wrong.

Bit stuck with Brush type 2s and English Electric type 3s as they are about 10 inches long, so some times they were 2 sections and other times 3 sections.

A big bag of slide switches still worked out cheaper than a few hundred decoders.

Quite agree.

I'm personally not a great fan of sheds (!)

I prefer to see engines working for a living rather than lounging around.

I learnt a long time ago, however, that it is easy, and more realistic, to put bucket loads of short sections into any loco yard that I did build.

But it would be a good reason to move across to dcc. Wiring and switches are no problem to me at all..

I have quite a few sound fitted locos already.. and..surprisingly the sound of  a Whistler travelling up Shap even gets Red Leader happy.

This will be a working shed supporting the terminus Station, carriage sidings and goods yard. The storage sidings has a turntable and loco storage for storing locos ready to go up the hill..

I agree, sheds as a place to show locos off are ok but I prefer working sheds

Yes, it’s a bonus, but the twin benefits of constant higher voltage supply and being to park a loco without reference to regimented section breaks are there with or without sound.

Section breaks mean you get rid of the sound of 10 locos or more gently sizzling or ticking over. Which on some layouts "doesyourheadin" .

The use of a "higher constant voltage" is bit of a red herring .. not surewhy youths know it is a major driver..
