All bits of new baseboard which can have cork fitted, has had cork fitted.  Next visit should see the completion of a complete circuit of track.. then I just have to wire it up.. temporary control panel being planned...

Don't listen to him Baz, he is nothing but a trouble maker and a bully.

 

Last time I visited his train set he made me drive it...............he uses DCC. See I told you he was a bully.

 

He does make a good cup of coffee when you play with his trains, so ain't all bad.

I moved Souf so you cant visit again, and you cost me a fortune with not ONE but TWO cups of Coffee, haha.:D

Another visit by Red Leader scheduled for this week. Some preparation work done..

 

trackbed cork now painted grey (makes it easier to ballast), Isolating switches for loco yard ready to be connected after track is laid, point motors and associated micro-switches to be pre-wired tomorrow..

 

More pictures after Thursday (all being well)

Not sure there is a "London road" in Leeds, but happy to be corrected. 

Certainly a "Little London", although whether anyone would want to alight there is debatable.

Both Leeds market place and Leeds cloth hall would have surely been called "Leeds Kirkgate". As perhaps would Leeds corn exchange.

The LNWR liked calling stations "London Road" possible due to the station being on the track/road to London.  Kirkgate would be an ex L&Y station.

 

The LNWR  wanted to have a line into the North East..so I have placed a LNWR station in Leeds.

 

Little London has not  always been the way it is now...

Red Leaders visited today and a lot of progress has been made. Before he arrived I had added some "kick boards" to the layout.

 

21021925_newkickboardsinplace.JPG.56324fcf5676afccc92105db53313211.JPGNot quite finished as I need to straighten the joins up.. but not bad for me!  I will be fitting some stock shelves in the open area under this bit of track, the kick board will mean that the layout is more presentable and will stop stock rolling off the shelves!

 

First up  - the fiddleyard loco sidings were fitted in place. Hopefully Red Leader has a photo of these as my camera decided to go dizzy with my shot! Droppers fitted ready for push buttons to be fitted on the control panel.

 

Once in place the baseboard above this area was fitted in place,

It forms part of the continuous run and lead into the station. Bottom right is the incline from the fiddleyard.

 

Once this was done it was onto something Red Leader really loves doing (thank goodness)

getting the goods yard/NCB track started. (Colliery lines are at the bottom of the picture...Red Leader was busy making sure track was in the right place and correctly distanced from each other.  

 

Points have been prepared - more pictures form both me and Red Leader later...

Hasn’t Red Leader got better things to do - like all of Carlisle, half of the Northern Dales and part of Southern Scotland?  :D

Well, after that slight unexpected hiatus, here's my report from Thursday's visit:

First job was to complete the laying of the loco stabling lines in the fiddle yard prior to they being covered up forever(!) This then allowed for positioning of the ply supporting pieces for the board above.

Whilst Mr O was busy wielding the soldering iron to the newly-laid pieces of track, I installed the supporting structure for the mainline curve where the junction to the main station will be. Doesn't look very exciting but some care needed here to ensure levels are as they should be and in fact some adjustment was necessary before it was to satisfaction.

And now the fiddle yard loco stabling area covered. Well, partly covered - as you can see, the rear of the turntable and the curve out of the fiddle yard remain accessible and this is how it will stay.

And now with afore-mentioned mainline curve also fixed down for keeps. The board from the picture above can be seen on the right so we now have a continuous stretch of mainline board round to the bridging piece. This is being (may already have been) corked as I type so should be laying mainline tracks along there next time.

And so, my reward(!) Time for some proper tracklaying to commence. This is the double junction off the mainline into the goods yard all pre-assembled. Ran out of time to actually install it but at least it gives an idea of what is to come. Amongst several 'policy' decisions made was to stick to 50mm track centres (rather than my favoured, more prototypical 45mm); this mainly on account of there not being any prolonged straight(-ish) stretches to take advantage of, dictated by the shape of the room. We will however come down to 45mm centres in the main station area as that is largely straight or on a gentle curve at most. Those with a keen eye for these things might however notice the additional pieces of track inserted to set the goods arrival road (nearest) to the 'correct' 10 foot spacing (61mm) away from the adjacent running lines. Handy space for any signals should it come to that.

Placed in position for now with a few lengths of track to give an idea of the overall layout. The double track curve of the mainline will be at five feet radius.

A wider 'progress' view so as you can see the general scheme. As I say, the visible mainline curve round to the left will be 5 feet radius and the right hand, near 180deg curve will be 3 feet radius, all hidden in a tunnel underneath the quarry.

No doubt this will provoke some comment! One item of motive power in particular is looking forward to a complete circuit being available ...

Next visit scheduled. Pointwork...painted...Point motors.. fitted with long tails to ease wiring... all oursanding cork work painred...

So the pre-painted track had the pre-wired point motors fitted then

The curves at the end to be hidden (Barnbow Colliery will be above it) were laid-- nice sweeping curves..

 

and the "test Set" (two coaches from the Blue/Grey set hauled by a Class 50 on Shap) was dug out for use testing the curves and rail joints..

and the copper clad sleepers at each end of the "Moving" baseboard over the fiddle yard were fitted..

At which point I set off to Frizinghall to get some more track pins.(the missing ones will now turn up)..

 

While more track-laying at the "other" end was being undertaken by Red Leader.

 

The Test set was used to check the joints
