david.hill64 Posted November 18, 2018 Author Share Posted November 18, 2018 (edited) I fitted the lifting hooks and associated flange plates before fitting the flares. I did the flares by annealing them first and then soldering the rear part in place first. The flare was formed around the handle of a small file and then the sides bent to the correct location. It was at this point that I realised that I had completely misfitted the front outer beading. Clearly this is better fitted once the flares are in place as these include part of the beading. Lamp irons were fitted to the rear together with the buffers and guard irons. I think the appearance and strength of the coal rails is improved by adding half round wire, so I did this. I think we need to start packing this in the kit. Again I started from the rear and much to my relief they fitted nicely. The handbrake was formed from some 1.6mm tube, 0.7mm wire and a split pin. Again I think we need to start adding tube for this. The water handles were 0.7mm wire and scrap etch for the brackets. Back to the loco next. How's yours coming along Rob? I have just noted that I didn#t take a note of the fact that I needed to add another nut at the front of the tender for fastening the body on so I will need to make a modification to secure it. It is the altogether bigger "Jersey Lily" Robinson Atlantic. Although I agree, the smaller Robinson locos, C13 and C14 are also fine looking locomotives. I should not have written C4/5 The base kit is for the C4 Jersey Lily atlantic tender loco. GCR also built 4 versions as 3 cylinder compounds. These became the LNER C5. The customer is interested in the C5 version and Gladiator does an unadvertised additional etch that enables the conversion. It's never been advertised as there are no instructions, so this will give me the opportunity - if all goes well - of building a C5 and producing an instruction set as well.
