That revised style suspension chassis was also used experimentally on a few other types of van (old Standard BR type and the early Palvan) though in small numbers, though probably with detail differences given the Vanwide's original brake levers were more LMS-like than BR.

There were very small numbers of Vanfits and Palvans so converted for a test train on the WR; perhaps a dozen or so of each; curiously, despite being rated to run at 75 mph, they retained conventional axleboxes and bearings.

Here's a link to Paul Bartlett's site for the Vanfits:-

Hello Tim,

Sonic Models has been created by a former Kader engineer with a long pedigree of designing models for Farish.

He has exciting plans for a variety of models going forward - the VEA van and 56XX steam loco in N are the first two.

Cheers

Hi Tim,

For the VEAs Sonic selected single models as their preferred option. But there are 5 different numbers in each of the maroon and red/grey liveries, and three in the less common grey/yellow, so lots of variety!

Full details of the exact configurations of liveries and numbers will be clear very soon.

Cheers

Ben A.

I can't decide which train to replicate:

RfD Class 47 + VDA + Six VEA + VDA + VGA

RfD Class 47 + single VEA

Class 31 + eleven VEA

Class 31 + BPA + three VEA + BDA

Class 90 + Three TTA + four VEA + two VGA

Class 47 + four VEA + VDA + four VEA + four VDA

or maybe a scrap yard special

Decisions decisions....

If only we knew somone who could produce a VDA to go with them

Hi Tim,

C-Rail already make MOD 20’ containers for N Gauge.

Hope this helps.

Later,

Were these wagons exclusively restricted to MOD traffic or could they be found working for other customers?

Not sure they were exclusive, but they were used by the MOD due to the tight curvature at some depots precluding the use of the newer long wheelbase vans, ie. V?As, but allowed them to move provisions within the Speedlink network.
