RMweb Premium Hal Nail Posted October 4, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 4, 2018 Something I've often wondered, were the dimples in the bottom of the body front, immediately above the coupling hooks, dings from use or deliberately put in at some point? D6775
Its not easy, but you get a good ressult with patience. I've just realised my bogie frames are different. Might have to keep an eye out for some other.

47606odin
Argh!!!! MAJOR DISASTER Tried humbrol water based varnish to seal my Crompton, prior to weathering, and as it went on blotchy previously, I thinned it a little with windex. It dried white and spotty I am now trying to recover it Edited October 11, 2018 by 47606odin
47606odin
Well, trying to turn the varnish disaster around. With some scrubbing with a cotton bud with thinners on, and some dirt judiciously applied, and Matt black wash in others, a bit of airbrushing on the roof, most of the white has been hidden. Some is still present on the window surrounds and doors, but I think I can live with it
RMweb Premium Hal Nail Posted October 11, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 11, 2018 Looks good! If it does still bother you couldn't you mask it all off and just touch up the windows and doors since a small area? I'm having similar issues: can't get a decent black top finish on my pannier - which I'm only respraying in the first place having made a pigs ear of removing a transfer. The primer is going on perfectly but I've tried 3 different types of black and getting orange peel every time. Only small consolation is it all comes off easily in IPA but when I do finally get a decent top coat the thought of having to varnish it after putting on transfers isn't appealing at all. 47606odin
Despite my disaster, I think I have captured the loco about right (dirt streak has been removed on the cab corner and orange stripe is dirtier since this photo BTW)
47606odin
Well that is a job I am glad I won’t be doing again in a hurry. A simple job but an insane number of passes with a sharp knife to remove them.... and my finger hurts now Edited October 14, 2018 by 47606odin
47606odin
Today went to Bunnings and bought some ply boards to enable a physical mock up. Result, I think it fits general view of the shed. i can get 3 Cromptons or 2 60's in each road a look at the depot throat looking in the shed a view from inside stabled outside the door stabled outside as seen from a passing Helicopter one last look Edited October 15, 2018 by 47606odin

RMweb Premium Hal Nail Posted October 19, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 19, 2018 (edited) Pete Harvey - PH Designs - does a 4mm etch for the plates to allow those bufferstops to be built from rail - there’s a thread on RMWeb. Someone asked ages ago if there was a 7mm version and no reply posted but might be worth asking. Edited October 19, 2018 by Hal Nail

47606odin
Today I have been tinkering. Little steps Firstly, I have made the girders for 4rd Shed, I need lots more, and they are on order from Hattons Secondly, I have painted 33050’s wheels and fuel tanks. Just got to pick the details and add a bit of spilt fuel Thirdly, reattached the bogie bolsters. A big difference for a little bit of scrap styrene And finally, reweathered my GUV after the disaster with the varnish
