Have had a very good weekend with Bostcoft at the Lincoln Exhibition. A big well done to the Lincoln Club and especially Sean for all his hard work taking over the manageing.

I've had the honour of exhibiting at every Lincoln show since they started the adventure of putting on a 'big' show at the Lincolnshire Showground. It's really gone from stength to strength since then and even suvived a forced change of venue.

i worry that it felt quiteter this year then previously, suppose the sunny weather Saturday didn't help with people possible choosing to do something outside rarther then visit an indoors event. However, the walm reception here and from people I talked to during the two days means that it's a quality show and I wish the Lincoln club all the best for their future shows, including the D&E adventure later this year.

I was there yesterday on the EMGS stand and really enjoyed the day.

There were enough good layouts to please most folk including me. The smaller room was slightly spoiled by the very high volume of a pair of Class 20s., which could almost be heard in the main hall and must have driven exhibitors in the small room bonkers. They were even left at full volume when they were in the fiddle yard.

I really like Foston Mills but trying to watch it with a high pitched whistle screaming in my ear just took all the pleasure out of it and I didn't stay in that room for more than a couple of minutes.

Trade was a bit altered last minutes as Hobby Holidays had to pull out at the last minute. So specialist modelling supplies were thin on the ground and I couldn't find any materials or paint that I would normally get from their stand.

There were a few layouts that really set me thinking about possible future projects and if I come away from a show with that sort of feeling, it has been a good one!

But all in all I would congratulate the Lincoln club on the show. With Nottingham/Bulwell show having to cut right back, Lincoln has a void to fill at this time of year in this part of the world and is doing it well.

The particular '20's you mention were also at the Retford Show in November and it was the same there, but fortunately in a full size hall. The two gentlemen that run that layout are possibly getting to a stage in their lives when they may not be aware that the sound is actually at such a level and disturbing others' space and without being horrible, it is probably time that layout was retired gracefully. It has 'seen better days'!

Now, I can see that some might criticise me for making this comment and I could understand this. However, sometimes it is the case of needing to be quite straight with folk and point out to them that what is happening is/has been creating problems.

TBG may I suggest you contact Phil at Hobby Hols, maybe give him a few days, and if he is better or able I am sure he can supply your goods or I could collect them for you and deliver as I believe you are fairly local to Retford/Beckingham, or perhaps I am mistaken? Maybe you could let me know if he is Ok by PM please?

Sincerely,

Phil

Thanks Phil,

I think your comments about the layout are quite fair.

I almost said something to them at the show but I tend to avoid confrontations and just walked away! It might have been different if I was trapped in there all weekend.

As far as I know, it isn't anything too drastic with Phil at Hobby Holidays. I was told that he cancelled because his wife was poorly and he wanted to stay with her but I don't know any more than that.

Thanks for the kind offer. He is just up the road from me, no more than 15 minutes drive. It wasn't anything urgent, just topping up on stocks of things as they get used. I can always make the short trip if I run out.

Cheers

Tony

One of the Lincoln club members suggested that numbers were slightly up on Saturday. Which was very good due to the good weather and a certain rugby match. I wasn't there Sunday to ask.

I enjoyed the show, and was quite happy to part with some cash for much needed supplies.

Even the Obergruppenwifenfuhrer enjoyed it, and was suitably impressed by some of the layouts.

The down side of that is that she wants to see some serious progress on PSJ.

The catering was sampled only as far as 2 (decent) coffees, and a slice of Coffee & Walnut Cake.

The Catering Staff were to be commended for keeping their cool while the 'Gentleman' in front of me at the till didi his best to get coffee + Coffee & Walnut Cake on a 'Meal Deal. insisting that the sign saying "Coffee & Walnut Cake £2.50" meant that his coffee was included in the price of the cake.

If I could have swapped his slice for a piece of carrot cake, I would have gladly donated and inserted the carrot.

Regards

Ian

I gather that it will be a purely DEMU exhibition.

Post Modern is a bit of a clue

As I’ve posted earlier all the exhibitions information is on the Lincoln Model Railway Club Website
