LT&S Coaching Stock

Hello all,

 

I am modelling the LTS in the dying days of steam, this time frame is out of the LMS, but still with LMS stock.  I do know that the 11-coach sets are 54' Suburbans and I've seen photos of a MR Diag.1542 along with a Gresley Suburban. 

 

Any more info on formations/ coaches in the era would be much appreciated.

Lacy & Dow, Midland Carriages Vol. 2 (Wild Swan, 1986) gives, in Appendix 39, numbering details and withdrawal dates of carriages built by the Midland for the LT&S section:

Lots 833-6 ordered Aug 1913 (48ft carriages to D1054, D602, D605, D1055), 888 of Oct 1914 (50ft D1062 lav compo) - mostly early 1957

Lots 958-961 of 1921 (48ft D1226, D1222, D1054, D1219), 978-982 988-9, 990-2 of 1922/3 (54ft carriages D1301, D2085, D1280, D1277, D1542, D1301, D1280, D2085, D1277, D1542) - mostly mid-1961.

The Essery and Jenkinson LMS coaches book Volume 3 has information on the LMS 54ft stock for the LTS line.

 

The Harris LNER coach book mentions and has the floor plans for the rebodied Illford stock that was transferred to the LTS line when the GER started its electric services. The Great Eastern society might have more information on the rebuilt Illford stock.
