ffayolle
Hi all of you, I hope you're well and I'm back with a project, just a vision currently, No Name Street. Size: 2 modules of 900 by 450mm + 2 Fiddle Yards I would like to do a "British baseboard" like you can see during some British exhibitions (Cf. Chapter 9, Aspects of modelling, Baseboards for model railways, Ian Morton, Ian Allan Publishing). So, what do you think about this trackplan, please? Be seeing you, Fabrice
MarcD
I think is fine for an industrial layout. What points are you thinking of using? Marc
3 link
Hi Fabrice, I think with the two transversers it can keep it interesting, the lower siding could be made longer into a headshunt so you could set back some wagons into another siding ( or two if you used a tandem turnout ). Tandem as in 3 way point ( gives it more interest ). All the best, Martyn.
ffayolle
Thank you... Marc, I will be a betatester for these new products: https://www.shapeways.com/shops/la-voie-du-zero-1 Martyn, Good proposal but I would like to minimize the number of track to preserve scenery. The first pointwork on the left is a tandem turnout. Fabrice

MarcD
I have heard of them before they look interesting. Where and when were you going to set it? Marc
ffayolle
Marc That's the good question. I don't know. Currently, I'm drawing the baseboard To be continued... Fabrice
MarcD
Just asking as the earlier you go the shorter wagons and the locos. Short stock makes you layout look bigger than it actually is. Marc

ffayolle
Hi all of you, Trackplan : Approved I've designed the baseboard (half part of). I apologize for French comments. What do you think about it? Fabrice

ffayolle
Hi all of you, I've modified the trackplan. I've finished the baseboard design (2 sheets of 5mm plywood). What do you think abour this design? is it enough strong? I'm waiting for turnout kits to verify the baseboard design. To be continued... The Bigbee Line
No more comment, remark, suggestion, proposal? At the moment it is a baseboard and a proposed track plan. You will not get much 'comment, remark, suggestion, proposal'. To get that you need to give more information, specifically.. Time period - for example 1955-1963 Area - for example British Railways, Western Region Theme - for example Gas Works exchange siding Locomotives - For example Pannier Tank, Peckett tank Stock - for example Mineral Wagons Steel and Wood, plus a few vans That type of information and maybe some pictures of prototype features that you would like to incorporate..... Provide that and I'm sure you will get some feedback, Best regards Ernie
ffayolle
Thanks Ernie for your comments Currently, I would like to know if my baseboard design is enough strong. Fabrice
Fastdax
Hi Fabrice, One good thing about your tab-and-slot plywood design is that you can always add strips of wood inside every joint to add strength to the box. In English, these are called "fillets" (nothing to do with steak :-) If any joint does crack, you can add a bigger fillet (square or triangular in cross-section) with lots of glue. The Bigbee Line
Thanks Ernie for your comments Currently, I would like to know if my baseboard design is enough strong. Fabrice FabriceI would add blocks in the outer corners. With screws from all 3 sides. Stops bursting if you drop a board
doilum
Glue is the key. Done properly, there is no need for screws or nails. Try a foaming urethane glue. About ten quid for a cartridge. You need to be quick though, only a minute or two before it starts to go off. A set of lightweight sash cramps will make life much easier.
