5050
For those who may not have seen this (often a bit querky) Detective series it is a Canadian production set in Toronto in the very early years of the 20th century. Why then were the main characters on a train traveling from Totonto to Algonquin being pulled in one direction by a BR liveried 'Manor' class loco and on the return trip by an Ivatt 'Flying Pig' in early BR Black? Both probably taken on the Severn Valley (?). And we complain about anachronistic railway shots on the BBC etc.! Not only completely the wrong period by half a century but the wrong country by almost half a planet.
PatB
I enjoy the Murdoch Mysteries in spite of its often anachronism laden silliness. Interesting about the railway shots. Usually the production company at least make some effort to keep things North American.
davknigh
Probably has a lot to do with the scarcity of operating steam in this part of the world plus a general ignorance of what steam looked like for most of the audience. People who would know the difference are getting rather thin on the ground these days. Cheers, David
Hroth
At least the viewers got to see two REAL steam locos in action, not something dreamed up by the special effects department, either in model or CGI form!
Kelly
Earlier seasons were set in the late Victorian period around 1890s, with it gradually edging towards the 20th century with each season. It got dropped by one production company around season 4 and switched to another. In the early seasons I remember they used North American looking stock at least. I'm a bit behind with this show, but it is rather good i found at times, even if it blurs history to bring things more modern to a Victorian and Edwardian period.
