The boring wiring bit is done so now time to do the scenery :)

To get rid of the shiny rails and plastic I started off with a blast of black spray

followed by a light dusting with grey

then I cleaned off the rail tops with a scrap of 2x1

a bit bit of dry brushing with brown will complete the basic weathering once it’s dry.

The wiring is finished so I thought I’d test the station

I’ve also got the fascia boards cut and trying to pre-bend them to make attaching them easier.

I also put in two latching push switches so if the modules are run on analogue trains can be isolated in the loops.

Profiles cut, filled now the screws can be removed, painted, sanded again and painted . . .

Here’s a brief clip that hopefully shows how I do the plaster rocks.

Based on the technique by Dave Angell in Oct 92 Continental Modeller. Plaster mixed to thick paste like icing and laid on with a spatula. A brush wetted and shaken off then stippled until the plaster starts to ‘peak’, wash brush to remove plaster and stipple some more. If it’s a bit wet initially you can go back for a second pass as it dries a bit more. Finally once it’s starting to go off I stipple with a dry brush to get a rougher surface texture. Once it’s dry I use thin washes to colour it.

The baggage car is by this chap, they are a bit basic and pricy for that but considering the work involved I suppose realistically priced. I had to sand down the ends of the roof to get rid of steps in the print and repaint the and it doesn’t match the Kato roofs very well. Fingers crossed for Noch doing this with Kato soon.

Main suppliers for 1/150 are

Kato for Allegra, Ge4/4 ii & iii,

Bernina, Glacier Express and standard EW1 coaches.

MDS modell

Ge4/4ii and HAIK bogie vans, with the refrigerated version due this year.

Pirata

special editions of Kato coaches and their own manufactured bogie flat wagons.

I really like the shape with "movement" of this module, Paul (and congrats for all  :) ).  I guess the extra length is according to your own dimension for Bonsai modules...

The length of the station is dictated by holding 6 coaches and a loco, the 'wiggly' board is the same length so they can box up when stored ;) . The other stations I have planned are 6ft long and will be built on 3ft long boards so they box up as pairs.

I need to glue the ballast tonight then static grass it all :)

Ok bit of unfortunate news, the demo has had to be pulled so we won’t be showing anything at Globalrail.

Alan just contacted me as there’s been a mix up with the venue.

“Chaps

URGENT!!

Monumental cock-up by the venue means we've much less space than planned for. As a result, I'm afraid I'll have to pull your Bonsai RhB demo from the show. Very sorry for the short notice, only found out 30 minutes ago!

Will prioritise you for 2020, expect details after the weekend.

Regards,
Alan”

Yep I’ve got a running layout so I’m happy :)

All round to yours then?

Seriously though I see a few Rhatische Bahn books on the shelf. Any you'd recommend please? I assume they are all in German?

Yes all German but great photos of the green and transition to red eras plus the late 90’s-early 00’s I particularly like.

The Eisenbahn Journal series are good and cover a wide period right up to date, it’s up to Teil 5 or 6 now.

RhB Gebirgsbahn in Graubunden

This covers the green era into transition and is a mix of b/w and colour.

Die Rhatische Bahn

Green to transition era again, mostly b/w with just a few in colour but has some useful detail shots. ( captions are tri-lingual incl. English)

My two favourites,

Die RhB in Farbe

Nearly all the transition era but all in colour and some great photos.

Rhatische Bahn eisenbahnerlebnis in Graubunden.

Concentrated on the early red period up to 2002, superb photos for scenic modelling really capturing the RhB in the landscape.

Yes all mine are too, found online and on eBay.

I’ve also got the excellent Albula book by Gion Caprez but it’s more for the historic pictures and history, thanks to translate apps, than the photos for modelling.
