The below is a list of the sheds in the Scottish, not everyone saw a diesel let alone had one allocated, but it would be great to try and feature as many as possible with a diesel on them.

Pics of the more unusual depots and sheds would be great to see.

added to the list will also be a few of the later depots that opened such as Miller Hill, Muir of Ord etc.

That list of sheds has information missing.

The most important omission, from the point of view of gathering information for the proposed book, is "64H - Leith Central (Diesel railcar depot)".

Several of the sheds listed had, at one time or another under British Railways, shed codes in addition to those shown against them in the list. At first look, these include Stirling (South), Fort William, Oban, Carstairs, Polmont, Carlisle Kingmoor, Dumfries, Stranraer and Beattock.

There's also the re-use of codes e.g. all the 63 district codes other than 63A, plus 65J. That last one has caused confusion on this site in the past.

Nowhere near as bad as the big LMR re-coding in 1963, but a few things to watch.

Hi,

the list gives a good start, but yes, most important in terms of the diesel story in Scotland was of course the Leith Central Diesel Railcar depot, although locos were there too, and finding some great pics of there is very very important.

Then there are sheds like Dumfries, which had only a couple of NBL shunters and one Class 08, but saw use after its closure to steam for a very brief period as a diesel depot, finding great pics of that with Class 27s etc on shed would be nice.

I will start searching based on your helpful list.   What is your deadline please?

Hi Stephen,

Really, by the end of the month would be great. The pics would be greatly helped by the addition of detailed captions and credits of who's pics they are. RE: size, naturally the larger to file size, the larger the pic can be in print.

'DELTIC' ran from Carlisle to Edinburgh on trial and was serviced at Leith Central as seen here:

The list omitted Leith Central as it was just a straight list of steam sheds, but along with Miller Hill etc, they'll all be covered.

Finding some good pics of Leith Central however is proving tricky.

There is only one image of Leith Central in the Engine Shed Soc. archive.   It's online on our website, in the Archive section, listed alphabetically in the Chris Bush collection.   It shows a railbus in 1965 plus dmu.

Leith Central depot I visited on several occasions during 1966-9 and there was an additional stabling point for locomotives on the other side of the bridge which I was informed about by another spotter on 11/6/67.  I noted a 350hp shunter and about ten Claytons stabled there but didnt note every number as I'd already cleared the Claytons and was in fear of being left behind by the coach!

Hi,

Really looking forward to this one, especially if it's as good as the first four volumes.  Sorry to be pedantic, but it's 'Millerhill' - all one word.

Regards,

Alex.
