INDUSTRIAL LOCO WISHLIST POLL #2

Please read this before voting

-The aim of these polls is to get some specific loco types to submit to the main wishlist poll team for inclusion in the next poll

-I already know that there is a general demand for industrial 6 wheeled diesel locos, so please limit your vote to 1-5 choices rather than selecting everything, so that we can eliminate the locos with less demand

-You can submit new locos to be added to this poll! Please post the loco and why you think it would be a good choice for an RTR manufacturer, and any pics you can find of said loco (more info at the foot of this post)

THANK YOU FOR VOTING!

This category is 0-6-0 and 6w Diesel Locos.

The Contenders

Bagnall DL2

The Bagnall DL2 was in effect a Bagnall "Drewry" with most having the same wheelbase as the class 03/04.
Just a couple were fitted with a larger engine and thus were a foot longer in coupled wheelbase, and an extra bodyside door longer. Apart from a batch for New Zealand Railways (narrow gauge) the 20 odd were mostly in NCB use, mostly in North and South Staffordshire. Preserved examples on the Foxfield Railway, The Chasewater Railway (wtg repairs) and in North Lincolnshire.
Examples:
'Wolstanton No.3' (WB 3150/1959) - Foxfield Railway

There was an externally very similar version built for BR

If there is a loco which you think fits the bill and is not on the list, please do let me know! If I have made any glaring errors please point them out and I will do my best to correct them.

If you want to vote or suggest a new one, try to think about:
-Does it fill a gap?*
-Can the tooling be used over and over again to recoup set-up investment?
-Can it be adapted to suit multiple prototypes with little detail differences?

Also, please bear in mind I am not asking 'name every industrial 0-6-0 you can think of', it's 'what industrial 0-6-0 is a good idea for a manufacturer to make?'

*In other words, is it distinct enough from things already on the market? An example of this would be that I don't think any manufacturer considering a new tooling would make a Hunslet 50550 because they are so similar to the Austerity which is already made by 2 manufacturers. Edited by Corbs

I've plumped for the Kerr Stuart; it's long been a favourite of mine. I'm a little surprised at the popularity of the Sentinel as (has been mentioned above) Hornby have both 4W versions in production. Is it because it's a genuine need for ones layout, is it a desire to complete the set having the 4W examples already or is it one of those lack of imagination/familiarity with the type that motivates this response? All are good and valid reasons and to be honest, in many ways, the Sentinel is a better commercial proposition than my favourite; I'm purely intrigued by the reasons behind the choice.

Would that not be too similar to the Hornby model?  I'm not familiar with any of the prototypes, but looking at the pictures, my first thought was "Have Hornby not produced that one?"

The Hornby one is of the four wheel version which is smaller.

Thanks "corbs" for your sterling work.

For info the Bagnall DL2 was in effect a Bagnall "Drewry" with most having the same wheelbase as the class 03/04.

I have collected some 03 / Drewry parts and contemplating a High Level chassis.

The "Stephenson" 0-6-0 is another loco of which a small number worked in Staffordshire, so has also been voted for.

The thing I find fascinating, is the number of Hudswell Clarke diesels in this poll! I have to admit I'd expected loads of Rustons.

The number of my own personal favourites in the poll is surprising to me. Primarily because I thought I had some pretty eldrich favourites!!!!!!

Shows the people on this forum are possessed of taste!!!!!

Amazed by the lack of a Hunslet..they did build a lot of diesels over the years. Perhaps an 67T Variant?

Hello Barry, of course a Hunslet can be included, I've only put in locos that have been suggested. Would it be possible to link to a couple of photos of the real-life loco you refer to?

Got to be the Sentinel and the EE Stephenson for me. Not a gigantic diesel fan really but some of the shunters do have a lot of charm. That being said I'm generally more of a four-wheel man. The smaller and "cuter" the better.
